Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Watts.
Hi Maria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with pound cakes as a child. Ever since I could remember, I wanted to learn how to bake pound cakes. I was always enthused by baking and seeing someone’s face light up after savoring something. So I decided to give baking a chance and my first time was horrible, yet I didn’t let it discourage me. I kept practicing over and over till I was satisfied that my baking could make someone’s mouth water. That’s when I decided to start (Everything Pound Cakes).
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel as though we all head it rough during the pandemic; it slowed down a lot for restaurant and small business owners. It was times where there wasn’t supplies available, food shortages, then the curfew we had in Atlanta it put a hole in my business along with everyone else.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Baker. I specialize in baking and customizing pound cakes. I’m known for having great cakes; friends and family rave over them; I’ve even gotten more intwined with different combinations since I view my pound cake as my masterpiece.
I’m most proud of the fact I started from not knowing to bake to teaching myself by practicing day in and day out, trying to perfect my craft. I’ve seen other bakers who bake pound cakes and they’re all good but I feel as though mine is from the heart and soul. I love baking; I love the face someone makes when they taste my pound cake and that smile like mmmmm so good!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I haven’t been baking for long and taught myself, I literally started baking in 2019. People go crazy when I tell them that, haha. They assume I’ve been doing it for years.
