MZ RYME, it’s been too long since we last connected. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with our community again. Some readers might have missed our prior conversations, so maybe you can kick things off for us with a quick intro?
Okay, what’s up everybody, my name is Jonathan Thompson a.k.a “MZ RYME”. I am a hip hop artist/producer/songwriter that is from Canton, GA. I have been writing lyrics &rapping for about 11 years and I’ve been producing music for about 6 years. I just graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2020 with a Bachelors Degree in Music & Business. I am CEO of my company “Radical Müzik Entertainment” which bases around songwriting and music production.
What was the process of creating certain songs that mean a lot to you?
For me to create certain songs that mean a lot to me is to brainstorm the concept of the song by telling a story about my life or current events going on in the world. Once I figure out the topic, I start with the beat to match the lyrics so it can bring a powerful message to myself and to my audience. As I finish writing the song, I practice the song for about a week or two and record it in my mini studio in my basement.
What became your motivation on how you are what you became today?
My mother “Arlene Thompson” and my mentor “Kerwin Felix” became a driving force of what my music is today. I never took music seriously because I still hurt by losing those two people in my life and I think as time went on, I had to accept that death happens in life and you cannot stop it. I always keep a picture with me of both of them on my phone as a reminder and I can hear them saying “Keep going, never give up”. After I graduated, it was my time to actually make a name for myself by showing my actions rather than my words and I kept my word and ever since then, I have been happy with the progress. I also got to thank my manager and my executive producer “Dameon Black”. He believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and I cannot thank him enough for the talks that also helped motivate me.
Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
I see myself still building my name with my music, having podcasts episodes, clothing lines, men’s fragrances, movies, TV shows, and more. I believe I have what it takes to make it into the music industry and Hollywood because I know I am that damn good and nobody can tell me otherwise.
It was so great to reconnect. One last question – how can our readers connect with you, learn more or support you?
