Exploring Life & Business with Fran Garrett of TEAcher Blends

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fran Garrett.

Hi Fran, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began working as an educator in 2004 after graduating from Clayton State University with a BA in Vocal Performance. During this time, I discovered my love for helping others by building capacity in students and my colleagues. I continued to develop my craft in the areas of coaching, school improvement, and student academic success by earning a Masters in Curriculum, Instruction and Technology and a Doctor of Education Degree in Administrative Supervision for Teacher Leadership. In my work as an Instructional Facilitator, Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal, I was able to observe and experience the need for educators to focus on self-care.

Over the course of my 17-year career, I have seen teachers and other educational professionals leave the profession, burn out, suffer in silence and even ignore their physical and social-emotional needs to meet the demands of students, leaders, and community stakeholders. I have even lost members of my school family due to individuals not being intentional when it comes to overall wellness. I personally experienced setbacks that could have been avoided if I had been equally focused on my health in the same manner that I focused on the health and wellness of my students. Each of these experiences caused me to branch out on my own and offer consulting services that are designed to use shared leadership and effective instructional practices for school improvement and pushed me to establish TEAcher Blends which is a lifestyle company that promotes wellness and self-care for educators.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the challenges I have faced along the way are establishing strong relationships with vendors (local and international) that can assist in the development of quality products during the global pandemic; Connecting with progressive male and female business owners who desire to establish a network of thriving partnerships that promote community and growth within the small business sector; Connecting with other Black business owners; Overcoming the demands of running a business and maintaining a traditional 9-5; Understanding the importance of charging my worth when providing services.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about TEAcher Blends?
I run an education and business development consulting business (Francene Garrett Solutions) that focuses on providing educators and educational agencies with coaching in the areas of school improvement, curriculum development, and culturally responsive practices that promote teacher retention, teacher growth, and student success. I also own a lifestyle company that designs products for educators that promote self-care and wellness called TEAcher Blends which offers custom organic loose leaf teas, infusers, mugs, stationery, and jewelry.

What sets TEAcher Blends apart from other tea subscription box companies is that our products are designed with educators at the heart of the brand. I am most proud of the custom organic loose leaf tea blends and the mantra bracelets. The teas support immune health, aid in digestion, and support overall wellness and the bracelet reminds us to align with our purpose and “Manifest” our dreams each day. I want readers to know that we offer something for everyone and ship nationwide. Virtual and face-to-face coaching sessions are available.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Perseverance, Innovation, and my desire to serve others are the characteristics that are most important to my success. My desire to help others experience personal success is the driving force behind my work. Some call this a person’s “Why,” and I call it my destiny.
