Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Davis.
Hi Amber, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Amber Davis and I am the co-founder of Ava’s Krazy Playground along with my partner Jayson Sims. I was born and raised in the city of Atlanta, GA. I attended South Atlanta High School and graduated Clark Atlanta University. After graduating, I immediately entered the workforce to start a career in sales & operations. After striving to climb the corporate ladder, Jayson and I realized that our journey didn’t end with working a 9-5 to help build another company’s legacy. We decided to take charge of our own destiny to build generational wealth with our legacy attached.
In 2019, I attended a birthday party with my then 2-year-old daughter. At the party, they had inflatable bounce houses and the kids loved them! Jayson then had the brilliant idea to buy a couple of commercial units and start a party rental service!
We put a plan together and bought (1) unit. I posted the unit to social media and the rest was history! We began our journey to owning what we call now Ava’s Krazy Playground, named after my daughter Ava to show her the power of generational wealth at an early age. Our first season, we extremely were successful with only (2) units! Every weekend we had at least four events. We decided to invest in (6) additional units at the end of the summer and prepped the entire winter of 2019 for summer 2020!
March’ 2020, the pandemic hits. Everything is shut down and we were 100% certain that we would go out of business. WRONG! The pandemic gave our little business a new level of exposure. Because everything was closed, people needed new innovative ways to celebrate graduations, birthdays and holidays! We were able to do over 300 events during the pandemic while also following CDC guidelines to ensure safety. Our business because so successful that we had no choice but to resign from our corporate 9-5 salaried positions and we have never looked back!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of challenges we have day to day is weather. We can’t set up or provide equipment if weather is safe (if event is outdoors.) Another challenge we face are no weekends. Our business days are usually Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Being a party rental/delivery company, we always have to be prepared for anything such as truck breaking down, equipment damage or not being able to physically do the job due to an injury. We ensure that we have plansplans A, B & C in case of emergencies.
