Life & Work with Oumou Diallo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oumou Diallo.

Hi Oumou, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my social media journey about four years ago when I also started my YouTube Channel (mingle with dimplez). My videos and Instagram page have always been about me and how I manage to be a mom, wife with a full-time job, all while juggling my social media site pages. It has not been easy to get noticed, but being your authentic self always helps. Over the years, I have built a community that I like to call my Minglers. They are always there for me. They support and encourage all the time. I want to say that it’s not the number of followers that counts but the number of people who constantly interact with your posts. Hard work and consistency pay off because now I can say that I’m working with brands that I couldn’t imagine would reach out to me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Social media is not easy because you have to put out unique content to your followers. People can lose interest in you so fast, so it’s essential to remain authentic. My obstacle, I would say, was trying to be consistent. Creating content every day takes a lot of work. In addition to that, I have my 9-5, and I just recently gave birth, but I just have to keep pushing because I really love sharing my life with my Minglers.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I consider myself a creator. I create content on both YouTube and Instagram. I collaborate with brands to also help advertise their products. This year I was able to share my pregnancy with my followers. Being African, we don’t talk about this kind of subject, so I wanted to break the cycle and share the good and bad that comes with pregnancy. Many women could relate to some of the things I was going through but didn’t have anyone to talk to. Having a pandemic baby help me build a connection with them because we were all in it together.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the weather here in Atlanta; not the latest one, lol, because it has been raining none stop. I also love the fact that I know I can raise my kids here, and they have access to great schools. I’m not too fond of the traffic, however.
