Today we’d like to introduce you to DeeJa B.
DeeJa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It started at the age of 7 years old I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur in the beauty industry. I learned how to do hair by painting & drawing hairstyles then bringing the drawings and painting to life on women’s hair. After high school, I thought that the dreams of becoming an entrepreneur were over after becoming a young mother at 19. I immediately shifted my goals to make sure I could provide a good life and provide for my daughter.
During college, I started working in Corporate America as a Fraud Analyst in banking until I got up the nerve to quit one day. The next day, I enrolled in hair school and juggled both college and hair school at the same time. I graduated both a week apart and started doing hair professionally the day I graduated. I grew a strong clientele nationally & internationally attracting clients from all over the world. I gained a passion for helping women who had been struggling to achieve healthy hair and helping women who had never had healthy hair in their life, achieve their hair dreams.
I begin to understand that there was a disconnect in what how women viewed their hair in thinking only people with a certain hair type could have healthy hair. I started to realize how many women were self-conscious of their real hair so I began to focus my career on simply making women love their hair more. This is what prompted me to start Sleek Pro Hair Care. It was started with an old 401K check that I got from my old Bank of America employer. I had finally did it.
After starting Sleek Pro Hair, my love for business and just building & running a business grew even more. It’s what led me to become the businesswoman I am today with investing in single family rental property, opening my own salon suites, and created a mentorship program & academy called Plan Focus Execute (PFE Academy), to teach other aspiring entrepreneurs how they can start & build a business from just one idea, one problem to solve, and desire to serve & help people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was definitely a struggle in the beginning because I was a 19-year-old mom with hardly any support & I almost gave up on my dreams because I couldn’t see my way out of the current situation.
When I finally quit my job, I had to rent out my house and me and my daughter had to go live with my dad. We slept on a twin mattress and just lived very simple while I was in hair school living off of an unemployment check a little over $300 a week. My father was the only person I could count on & eventually I was able to finish hair school.
Starting Sleek Pro was extremely challenging. There were so many people that doubted the idea because of all the big brands that are out there. Eventually, people began to see that my efforts paid off and my little company started to develop a footprint in the industry and growing rapidly today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Sleek Pro Hair Care was founded in 2016 in Atlanta by myself, a professional healthy hair specialist. I am known for my ability to take extremely damaged hair and turn it into a work of art and a total transformation through my talents as a hair stylist and a healthy hair guru who has created Sleek Pro Hair Care for the purpose of women everywhere to fall in love with their hair and reach their hair goals.
What set me apart was my ability to tell stories through my hair Care content. It made women never want to leave my chair and want the products even more.
I want the readers to know 2 things. If you’re a woman at home that has fallen out of love with your hair, a professional grade hair care company called Sleek Pro Hair Care has been developed to give you salon quality & real results to be able to achieve your hair goals and truly develop a deeper love and appreciation for your hair.
Secondly, I want other aspiring entrepreneurs to know how they can start & build a business from just one idea, one problem to solve, and desire to serve & help people. And that it’s possible!
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Working trade shows with my father at the World Congress Center in Atlanta.
