Today we’d like to introduce you to David Kim.
Hi David, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was naturally interested in cameras at a young age. I was fascinated by how they capture special moments in life and how I could relive those moments through videos. I started a video production company in high school with a friend, which turned out to be pretty successful. I shot music videos, promos, events, and pretty much any projects I could get my hands on. Gaining insight and experience in this industry at an early age affirmed my passion for filmmaking. I attended SCAD for college, studying television production.
I was able to further my experience, working for renowned digital media agencies in Atlanta. After gaining experience, I was fortunate enough to begin my own agency in 2019 called Xapis Media. I now serve multiple Fortune 500 companies across the country, creating commercials, product explainers, and brand videos.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My family and I immigrated to the States in 2003, and my immigration life has definitely not been the easiest road. My parents worked hard day and night, dealing with two jobs to make ends meet. I vividly remember following my tired father to his second job at night and helping him clean office buildings. They worked hard so that I could pursue what I was passionate about, which ultimately set my path for success.
Though they worked hard, I didn’t have the money or connections to pay for my tuition, but that did not stop me. Seeing my parent’s hard work motivated me even more, and I worked multiple jobs to chase my dreams. So no, it has not been the smoothest road; it took a lot of work and sacrifice to get to where I am today, and I am most grateful to my parents. They are the reason I am here today.
