Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorielle Jackson.
Hi Lorielle , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a science nerd turned creative entrepreneur. I studied Environmental Science at Florida A &M University and began teaching high school science shortly after graduation. When I was 24 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer which completely shattered my world yet, over time forged the path for me to start my own business. In the years following my diagnosis and treatment, I was looking for a creative outlet to regenerate feelings of joy in my life. When one of my close friends got engaged, I volunteered to make her bridesmaid proposal gifts. Her entire bridal party was so elated and excited about their gifts which also made me happy and excited to have had such an impact. From there, I focused on creating the most thoughtful and lavish birthday gifts for friends with upcoming birthdays, luxe house warming gifts, wedding gifts and adorable baby shower gifts for all the people in my life. The outpouring of love and feedback I received from each gift, encouraged me to turn my gift making hobby into an actual business. Since then, I have dedicated my time to creating special moments for people located all over the nation.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With no prior experience or immediate role models in business, I quickly learned that there is much more to running a business than simply creating gifts or setting up product shoots for social media content. I have encountered many challenges along the way but I have have learned that ultimately everything is “figureoutable”. YouTube, entrepreneurial podcasts, marketing books, mastermind groups and patience have all helped me with the fundamentals of establishing and operating Pretty Brown Box.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a gift box designer, curating gifts for special occasions like birthdays, holidays, congratulatory gifts, housewarmings and even corporate events. Every detail of the gifts are designed and hand crafted to make each recipient feel as though they are experiencing Christmas on a random day. When designing each gift, there is careful thought and consideration taken into determining which items are the best for the occasion and are also both visually appealing and practical. We try to include items that are guaranteed to be used by the recipient and also provide that “WOW” factor. With the mission of “Spreading Joy Through Gifts” I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to help bring light to people’s lives in such a thoughtful way.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
A book I was recently introduced to that has inspired me to dream bigger and do my best work is We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers. Daily/Weekly podcasts I rely on for motivation are The Woman Evolve Podcast by Sarah Jakes Roberts, Black Girl Podcast, Secrets to Success by Eric Thomas and The Friend Zone for laughs. Facebook Business Suite is great for scheduling and VSCO is incredible for on the fly picture editing.
