Daily Inspiration: Meet Richard South

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard South.

Hi Richard, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a gospel singer, and I appear on Television weekly on WATC Tv57 I have a group of singers, “Richard South & The Power Singers” we travel each week to local churches and venues across the Southeast. I also have a full-time position at the Georgia Tech Career Center. I work with employers who wish to recruit students for internships, co-op’s and full time roles.

I am a native to Atlanta, and started with Georgia Tech in 1988 working with the police department, joining Career Services in 2008. My grandmother was a member of Georgia Tech’s professional staff from 1964-1984, and opened a successful catering business and restaurant after she retired. I assisted her in operating that business until 2005.

Honestly, I am not sure if my “story” would make a good article for your publication.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Learning to present my message in a credible meaningful way meant years of mentoring, trial and error.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I sing Gospel Music, play the Hammond Organ and we perform more traditional songs with a soulful flare. We reach out to people who need direction, and minister to those who feel forgotten. We lead a ministry that reaches out to the elderly each year for over 20 years taking baked goods and canned food and staples to homes at the Christmas season. Our team is diverse and represents different age groups.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Working in Midtown Atlanta, I love the commit to diversity and inclusion of all groups. Professionally speaking Georgia Tech has welcomed the hottest “Technical Hub” in the country with Tech Village that expands across the downtown connector well into Midtown attracting businesses from across the nation.
