Rising Stars: Meet DirectedbyFour

Today we’d like to introduce you to DirectedbyFour.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
DirectedbyFour was Born in 1996 in Germany, but Raised in Maryland.

My Journey into photography started when I purchased my first camera, which was a Rebel T3i. After college, I kept myself out of trouble and to make photography my hobby. I began taking pictures of scenery and lifestyle, then I quickly grew my following and began to capture models and the “business” aspect pretty much. I also grew from there, by 2019, I started shooting more Music Videos with DMV artist such as Lil Dude, Goonew, Kayvo, & Cell Chapo. I also used to pull up to the hood during my work breaks and after work to create projects.

My first Editors were Trilla Visuals and @ChanceBum and my FOUR brand has been all over the DMV region also gaining fans, business partners, etc. In other areas of the world such as London, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and more. I quickly gained over 1 million views across youtube within a year and Also have close to a million views on my personal youtube channel within a year and a half.

As my business grew, I had to quit my government Job to focus more on my business.

As my business was growing, I was gaining recognition from other creators across the USA. @ChasinSaksFilms is from the DMV but is currently based in ATL. He invited me out to a collab on a few projects and to meet the individuals he was working with. The First day ever in the A, he introduced me DrugRixh, FreeBandz Label, Slaughter Gang, PNB Rock, Black Circle, and more. I always introduce myself as a “Business man” rather than a “Camera Man” when I meet individuals. I’m thankful to be around these individuals because I learn a lot by just listening to conversations and listening to other business discussions. Definitely, a different outlook from what I’m used to.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been smooth for the most part. I move with my intuition and I have a solid group of people i work with that keeps me motivated and going.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In my city, I am mostly known for directing music videos. I’m most proud of using my business to start and brand other businesses and helping my family and friends learn something new about entrepreneurship and other avenues.

What sets me apart from others is my work ethic and my ability to network with a wide range of people. I also travel a lot and make connections from each place I go. This Year, I have dropped projects from artists in Houston, TX , Chicago, Il, Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, CA, Atlanta, Ga, and more.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking is very important and almost necessary in this field. I advise always be genuine and authentic when you are around new people. Know when to be a good listener/learner but also stand on your own principles. Having these traits worked well with me as i did not have a mentor.
