Rising Stars: Meet Haley Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Harris.

Hi Haley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up on the Southside of Atlanta. I grew up around so much black success and black creatives that I was always motivated and encouraged to be expressive. I feel in love with photography crazily when I was trying to become a model myself . The angles and different perspectives that a photograph can capture began to interest me. One day I had a my first shoot with a female photographer and it completely changed my life. Most male photographer that I worked with at that time weren’t really attentive to small detail or the most comfortable to be around.I had never felt so comfortable and at ease at a shoot. That’s when I felt like I wanted other woman to feel that comfort as well. Also,I thought I had a pretty good eye lol.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I honestly believe I have been super blessed to be where I am in less than 2 years of shooting. The road has not been smooth exactly but the the lessons I have learned along the way have definitely been necessary. I am able to use my art as a way to express and impact others so in the end I’ll take every bump and every lesson so that I can reach who I need to.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer based in Atlanta. I wouldn’t say right now I have a specialty. I am just a creative that likes to create what I see in my head. I want others to see my photos question how and why I decided capture that moment.I am most proud of my authenticity to myself no matter what I try to put my style and essence into my work. I stay true to myself and my craft and I think that shows in my work. I want to improve with each shoot I do and I think that passion shows.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The way that social media and technology is such a major presence in everyday life, I think the photography industry is going to steadily shift upwards. People are starting to personalize themselves through social media rather than just seeming perfect. I believe photographers and creatives in general will be needed to help capture these personalized themes.
