Meet Suryah The Artist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suryah The Artist.

Hi Suryah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Biloxi, Mississippi by way of New Orleans, Louisiana (my mom is from MS my dad is from N.O). I grew up in church and began singing and songwriting at the age of five years old. Throughout grade school, I was always known for my unique vocal abilities. I actively participated in show choir, drama, dance and theater. This, in which, led to me being offered a music scholarship towards the end of my senior year of High School. Although I decided to turn down my music scholarship, I never gave up on my musical journey. In fact, this decision pushed me to strive even harder towards my dreams to become a world-renounced singer/songwriter. After High School, I decided to set out on a journey to Mobile, Alabama where I started professionally recording music and doing shows. This experience inspired me to expand my horizons by relocating to a bigger city with more opportunities, Atlanta, GA. When I moved to Atlanta, I had little to no money. I spent a number of months sleeping in my car.

Fortunately, God had bigger plans for me. I started professionally releasing music back in year of 2016. After releasing my single “Charge It”, I instantly attracted a plethora of opportunities. I was literally one of the most sought-after independent artists from 2016-2018. However, I decided not to accept any label offers and remain 100% independent. Fast-forwarding to 2019, I got a call that Big Boi of OutKast was interested in hearing some of my music. From there, the rest was history. I am still 100% independent, but I have been working closely with Big Boi and curating legendary hits straight out of The Stankonia Recording Studios. I took time off from releasing music to master my craft and make sure that I was building on solid foundation. As of recently, I released a single on November 11, 2021 by the name of “Like Me (Interlude)”. I plan to release the music video on December 11, 2021 on YouTube. In 2022, you can expect to hear a lot more music from Suryah The Artist, for it is sure to be a break out year for me. I plan to impact the world and music industry with each song moving forward. So to ask who is Suryah The Artist? Well, I would say Suryah The Artist is the new sound wave. 2022 is mine for the taking!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. When I first came to Atlanta, I was sleeping in my car many of nights. I was the definition of what some would call” A starving artist”. Literally, I lost so much weight from not being able to afford food on a day to day basis. I gave up everything to pursue this dream of mine. I even had to be away from my son for long periods of time while striving to create a foundation and a better life and future, which has been one of the hardest things I ever had to do in my life. I ran across a lot of opportunists with ill intent who tried persistently to take advantage of me. I even faced a time period where other people tried to steal my identity after I decided not to partner with them. The journey has been hard but worth it. It definitely made me stronger.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer/songwriter, model, wigologist, mua & creative director. I’m pretty multifaceted which is why I go by Suryah The Artist.

What matters most to you?
God, my family & changing the world through music.

My why? To be honest, it is my birthright. All my life, I have been spiritually guided to pursue music to achieve a higher purpose than that of my own and God and my family has been my biggest support.
