Rising Stars: Meet Antoine (Tweezy) Kennedy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoine (Tweezy) Kennedy.

Hi Antoine (Tweezy), can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born & raised in Detroit, MI into a musical family. My dad played the saxophone since he was a kid and throughout his adult life and my older brother did as well. I wanted to play the trumpet however instruments were expensive so my dad gave me $20 and told me to go buy some drumsticks. I started playing the drums in elementary school at Area E. Academy’s Marching Band under a great band director Mr. Mac. Living in Motown inspired my musical venture, but when I entered high school I stopped playing the drums and focused on sports. After I graduating high school, I served in the United States Marine Corps for 11 years. My creative juices continued flowing while I was in the Corps. I decided to purchase a Fantom X6 keyboard back in 2005 after my first deployment to Iraq and started music production. After serving, I entered beat competitions with Istandards and built relationships throughout the country with fellow producers. Beat battles were challenging at first but after winning one competition I understood the judging criteria. Around the same time I joined the Sound Kartel production team. Shoutout Mark Shotta & Dj Souf who motivated me throughout this process. I began releasing my own instrumental tapes. In November 2020, during the pandemic, Esquire and I formed a team of producers, songwriters, and artists named “Da Collaborativez”. With over 9 Instrumental tapes under my belt, engineering and producing for artists in the DMV area and around the US has been my main focus. Based out of Trilogy Sound Studio located in Virginia, I have had the opportunity to work with some dope up and coming artists and I can’t wait for you to hear what’s dropping in 2022.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road has been very challenging. Your own flesh and blood will turn their back on you. My support comes from strangers more than my own family and friends. Battling PTSD from two combat tours in Iraq and dealing with people has been very challenging. Sacrifices you make to do something you love will always be the biggest challenge to me, but it also makes me humble to the core.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a music producer, songwriter, and engineer. I am also a clothing brand co-owner of Semper Fresh Clothing. My proudest moment is executive producing an album with my brother Esquire that we released titled “Virgoland”. What sets me apart from others is the passion I have for music and I’m eager to learn. As a Marine recruiter, I learned four major components in life; listen with a purpose, listen to build trust, listen for facts and feelings and listen to understand. My love for music always grows when I observe and listen.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was going to the Motown Museum. It was an eye-opening experience and learning about how all the greats were local and creating music at a cyclic rate. Soon I will have my Motown and be able to spread music all across the world for everyone.
