Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Forehand.
Rachel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began playing guitar at the age of eighteen right before going off to college in 2016 in Tifton, Ga at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. I’m a Macon, Georgia born and bred musician/singer/songwriter. I’m still based in Macon where I compose music inspired by the likes of the Allman Brothers Band, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, JJ Grey & Mofro, and The Marshall Tucker Band.
Growing up, my father, Dwayne Forehand played guitar for over forty years and my drummer uncle, Keith Forehand, played in a band in the 80/90’s called the Lifters–a local favorite who opened up for The Allman Brothers several times.
I’ve always been surrounded by music during my life, and as I went through college, I kept practicing and playing. After my sophomore year of college, I transferred to Georgia Southern in Statesboro, GA where I first began playing live shows at a bar called “Cowboys Pub”. I played for hardly nothing on Monday nights until one day I got a call from a friend saying someone had called out at another bar down the road “Millhouse Steakhouse”. I filled in and that was my first ever “real” gig. After that, I began playing more shows in Statesboro until I graduated in December of 2020. I moved back home to Macon after graduating and have played live shows ever since all over Georgia: Athens, Jasper, Canton, Perry, Vidalia, and more, and some songwriters shows in Tennessee.
I’m release my first album in the spring of 2022 titled “Six Strings & Day Dreams” that resonates among multiple genres and has strong lyrical authenticity. I hope to keep playing music, share my album with others, and continue to write more songs in days to come.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has been very hard trying to book shows since COVID started, I’ve faced many obstacles when it comes to booking as I’m sure a lot of others have faced as well. I’ve done everything nearly on my own and I’m proud of how far I’ve came and very blessed with all the opportunities that have been given to me along with way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I’m not playing live shows, I work for my family business “ChemSouth Solutions LCC” where I help run the office. Apart from that, I graduated with a BA in Studio Art. My favorite medium to work with is Ceramics & Fine Metalwork but I’m also skilled in painting – acrylic & watercolor, and export resin work. My favorite thing to do is make sculptures and make jewelry out of metal. I’m proud of one of my sculptures getting “Best in 3D” at a Georgia Southern Art Exhibition in Fall of 2020.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see the music industry continuing to rise in the next 5-10 and grow as technology changes as well as consumer’s taste of music.
