Meet Patricia “Trish” Bolden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia “Trish” Bolden.

Hi Patricia “Trish”, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a small-town Southern Belle from Montgomery, AL. Following graduation, I contemplated exactly where I wanted to take my career. Like many recent college graduates, I wasn’t rich, but I had my degree. A few days went by, and after countless hours applying for jobs in my hometown and places were positions in my field were available; it became a daily routine, but I never gave up. I prayed for weeks for confirmation on where I would find a job and relocate.

Georgia came to mind, but I felt God was sending me on a dummy mission because of everything surrounding this move and the small window to prepare. He spoke to me and told me to “Go” but even in confusion I just listened and obeyed. However, those prayers were answered a few days later. I received a call back from a Marketing Company that needed a Manager of Communications, and my resume was accepted on the spot out of 43 applicants. Once the details of the assignment were complete, I immediately got on the road, packed two bags, and moved to Atlanta, GA in September of 2017.

I paced myself for the new journey, after all, I was leaving a place I knew all my life, including my close family and friends to move to another State all on my own. I trusted God, had faith, and left because I knew he had a PLAN and PURPOSE for my life. I believed in myself and wanted more for Trish. I made a conscious decision to do better and be better no matter how many times I fell.

As I look back from then to now, I’m a completely different person in a new position and walking in my destiny day by day. Today I’m a Published Writer, Journalist/Host, Business Owner, and Real Estate Investor. I’ve worked extremely hard to be the young woman I am, and I don’t regret anything or lesson learned along the way, I’m just blessed and thankful to be growing and flourishing on this journey called life.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’d be lying if I said yes, but what I will say is every bump in the road was necessary. I struggled at the beginning with being away from family and not having the same support I did when I lived in Alabama. I’m so grateful, I literally moved with nothing but my faith— Though Atlanta is the city of dreams, it is not a place you just move to because it “ looks “ good; you honestly should have a goal or plan in place because you can either sink or float if you aren’t focused.

One of the biggest struggles was entering what’s known to be a male-dominated industry, which is the wonderful world of entertainment. There is a lot of competition for young black journalists, especially women as we are often subjected to double marginalization because of race and the gender roles within the industry. You must work hard and be very consistent, always stay ready, be polished, be present, and always know your job. This type of work also consists of traveling and long hours, and that too can be a lot as you can become “too busy” from your personal life, old hobbies, and even your friends, so I had to balance all of the things most important to me including self-care.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Ah Yes! I am an Entertainment Journalist, Writer, Author, Red Carpet Host, Business Owner/CEO of Pretty Beats by Trish™ Cosmetics, and Founder of “She Wears a Crown “— a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring young ladies in local communities. I currently work for WOE Magazine in Atlanta, Georgia as a writer, red carpet host, and on-air talent for the magazine. As a tenacious journalist, I have covered red carpets and major events such as the BET Awards, Oscars Awards, ESPN/NFL Celebration Bowl, Stellar Awards, Black Music Honors, HAPA Awards, the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, latest movie premieres and many more. I am most proud of my accomplishments as a Journalist successfully moving and growing within my career. Whenever I’m in LA, I feel like I’m at my second home. I love working when I’m there and enjoying the weather, so I’m humbled to say I’m proud when I get booked in Hollywood. I’m 27 and have interviewed some of the most phenomenal people and celebrities in the industry and am honored to host the most elite red carpets.

Something that sets me apart is that I’m not looking for the competition from other women who are doing the same job as me. My lane is my lane and that’s my focus. I’m inspired by the women before, besides me, and hope to be an inspiration to those who are following the same dream. I know from experience that every person has their own journey, and patience is important. I found peace in knowing who I am and what I have to offer the world. This also gave me the strength to keep going even when things didn’t happen when I wanted them to. It’s all about the process, and if you rush it there’s a chance you miss out on a lifetime opportunity. I have strong morals and as a young lady, I believe my true purpose in life is to give and serve others. My favorite quote is “Faith over Fear!”

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
That’s a tricky question. The entertainment industry is constantly changing, so I’m not exactly sure what’s next, there is always a new trend or new need for something. On a positive note, I would like to see the industry come together as far as the men and women collaborations in hip hop, but who knows. We’ll just have to wait and see.
