Daily Inspiration: Meet Taylor Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Jones.

Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started from Youtube. I never in a million years thought Makeup Artistry and Esthetics was going to be my career, but at 14 years old I took a major love for the art. I still didn’t know it was MY career until I was 17 and my classmates began to ask me to do their makeup. So I started promoting that I was a makeup artist. I turned down a full ride to Dillard University to attend Aveda! I guess I can give credit to my mother for being an educated, licensed Cosmetologist and salon owner. She never once told me I HAD to attend a four years university.

It took me three years to get to where I am on my terms of success. After graduating Aveda at 18, I still worked as a server for two years having little to no clientele in the beauty industry. When I got fired that’s when I knew…. “I gotta find a way to get this money by tomorrow” & the rest is still being written.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh no! It took a lot of tears, sacrifice, and free services! I gave out SOOO many free services just trying to get clients in the door. My struggle was myself. I wasn’t dedicated, consistent, or learning. I was complacent and focused on everyone’s craft but mine.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a three years licensed Esthetician. I specialize in Makeup Artistry, although knowledgeable and efficient in waxing. I also offer facial services and am working to build a steady clientele there. I’m a fast learner but an even more fast worker and still provide exceptional service. That’s what makes me different. I think I’m most proud that I was thrown obstacle after obstacle and I dug myself out on my own. I invested in myself and didn’t ask for no handouts!

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going to the hair salon with my mom on the weekends.
