Exploring Life & Business with Rob Hall of Atlanta Performance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Hall.

Hi Rob, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been an athlete all of my life, and I became interested in Olympic weightlifting when I was 15. Over the next ten years, I would move up the ranks in the sport of weightlifting, winning medals on National and International stages.

Eleven years ago, I started coaching weightlifting. After a short stint at a gym in East Atlanta in 2016, I bounced around from gym to gym for a little while. In 2019, I was fortunate enough to interview for an opportunity to work at One on One Physical Therapy in Chamblee, where I currently work with movement disorder (Parkinson’s) patients, stroke recovery patients, and college and professional level athletes.

This past September, Village Fitness in EAV underwent new ownership, and they contacted me about bringing a barbell club back to the Village. Blake and Brandon are amazing owners and I feel incredibly fortunate to be working with them in our own state-of-the-art, 2000 sq. ft. space in the heart of EAV.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think with every entrepreneur, you’re going to run into pitfalls and struggles. I think my biggest challenge as a coach has been finding a space in which to coach my athletes for an extended period of time. Dropping barbells and making a significant amount of noise in a gym space can be difficult, not only for ownership but for membership, as well. (Fortunately, the weight room at Village Fitness is nearly soundproof, as we have taken great strides to making that room as safe and suitable as possible.)

Having disagreements with gym ownership happens from time to time. Financials have to be right for all parties involved, and that can always be an obstacle. Growth matters in business, and AP has grown steadily since 2016. I am thankful for that, and I am incredibly thankful for every gym owner that took a chance on Atlanta Performance.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Atlanta Performance?
Atlanta Performance is a multifaceted fitness and wellness organization specializing in the Olympic sport of weightlifting, sports performance for youth athletes, and specialized care for aging adults with movement disorders, like Parkinson’s and Essential Tremor.

I am incredibly proud to say that we have one of the most diverse client bases of an organization of our kind. Two of our three current coaches are women – Aleigh Moore and Alanys Andrade – both of whom compete on the National level in the sport of weightlifting. We stand by the words “AP IS FOR EVERYONE” and we welcome everyone of all races and sexual orientation.

We offer one on one private training, as well as group classes, in TWO locations – Village Fitness EAV and One on One Physical Therapy. Coach Aleigh is a board certified ATC and she offers therapeutic measures like dry needling and cupping, among others. We have an on-staff nutritionist and licensed massage therapists in house.

What matters most to you?
I think it all boils down to quality relationships for me. As a single father, spending time with my daughter and watching her grow as her own person has been the most rewarding experience of my life. As a coach, working with the most incredible set of individuals I have ever known has made me a better person. I learn so much from them daily. Their deepest and truest thoughts, their culture, I’ve broken bread with their families. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to do something that I love every single day of my life! To Cubby, the athletes and staff of AP, and the ownership of One on One and Village Fitness, I am eternally grateful. You all make me a better… every damn day.
