Inspiring Conversations with Cynthia Adame of Cyn Creates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Adame.

Hi Cynthia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 23 yr old Mexican American from Gwinnett, Georgia breaking generational boundaries. You’d be surprised to know I actually applied and enrolled at GGC to study criminal justice, but something in my heart told me no i’d eventually get bored. I then ignored college for a few months and continued to work at Marco’s pizza where I was only getting paid $7.25 biweekly. Although I was only 19 at the time, I’m the oldest of seven, therefore I felt as if time was moving speedily and I had no time to waste. I was the big role model I had to move/think quick, so I would pray for success and one day, I ran into an ad promoting Paul Mitchell Esani. I already had a love for makeup, so I scheduled a tour. Im not going to lie I was thinking I would go to school to learn more about makeup so that I could do brides, quinces, photoshoots, etc. little did I know about cosmetology! They spoke to me about hair and I was convinced right away! I started school as soon as possible; I started on August 20, 2018 and graduated on December 8, 2019. Three years later, I am now the owner of a private studio called Cyn Creates. Before becoming an LLC owner, I assisted at two different salons that taught me I was meant to become my own boss. My journey has been a rollercoaster, but I appreciate it all!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from easy! I was working at Marco’s pizza making $7.25 getting paid biweekly, so when I was told my school was worth 20k I wanted to cry! My parents lived paycheck to paycheck, so I knew I wasn’t going to ask them for help. I didn’t have a car either I used to ask for rides to get to work, but school was an hour away I knew that was more to ask for. I had no other choice so I would drive my dad’s broken smelly work truck that would squeak to school because that’s all I had. I was fired from the first salon I ever assisted at for working on a client who wasn’t welcomed due to personal reasons and that broke me because I had never been fired! I was still a cosmetology student it was so unexpected that I felt lost I thought that was my sign to give up. However, I then applied at another salon where I was hired within a week and that gave me hope! Working at the new salon for about 3 to 4 months I never really felt appreciated though nor did I feel like I was going to grow there as fast as I wanted to. I wanted to learn more about hair and color each and everyday I was looking forward to continuous education out of school. On my free time I would always watch hair theory or work on my doll heads to better myself. One day I happened to be on my phone watching videos on color theory in the break room and the owner got upset so she snatched my phone took it from me and later had a meeting with me where she asked me “who do you think you are? a YouTuber? you’ll be a nobody!” She told me my job was to assist her at all times. I had no rights being on my phone because I hadn’t “invested in her salon yet” I remember her telling me if I ever finished my work early, I could instead wipe the doorknobs and keep her salon clean. I felt belittled being there i had to quit! I then reached out to the first salon I worked at and asked if I could possibly be given a chance to work with them again. I was blessed enough to be given the chance, however things weren’t the same the second time. I personally felt picked on after coming back because id get in trouble for things others wouldn’t. The vibe was a lot different things were becoming too personal, so I had to resign 5 months later. When you’re first starting, i would recommend not taking anything too personal, but as an experience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
It took me about two years to finally say okay, solo dolo Cyn Creates it is! I was stuck in between Cynsational beauty and Cyn creates, but I figured later on in life I’d love to create more and do more than just beauty. As for now, Cyn creates is just me. I’m working in a private studio where I specialize in color; balayage warm colors to be more specific. I’ve invested in two balayage classes due to the fact that I love a subtle look and that’s what I really want to be known for in the future. I am also certified in keratin fusion extensions and if we’re being honest haircuts are not my favorite, but my signature touch is a beautiful face frame. I am known for giving my clients the best services! I can pridefully say I put my clients first and I make it my goal for clients to leave my chair happy. If it weren’t for my clients, I wouldn’t be where I am today! One thing id say that sets me apart from other hairstylists is that I don’t compete for clients. I don’t compare myself to other stylists, yes they motivated me, but I’ll try to always work on myself, my techniques, my professionalism and become better than I was yesterday.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Believe it or not Instagram keeps me motivated; I follow a few pages with inspirational quotes and a few cosmetologist I look up to and that pushes me to be my best early in the mornings. While I’m working, I enjoy listening to music it literally keeps me on my feet.
