Today we’d like to introduce you to RedxLetter.
Hi RedxLetter, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music started for me as a child that enjoyed playing the piano. My mom is a singer and music major, and she kept me around music since birth. I began piano lessons at nine, and around the same age I sang in a musical called “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown”. From there, I began to hone my piano skills with several teachers. By age 12, I started working as a church musician. I played at countless events, church services, and parties growing up. I began writing songs when I was 18.
As I got more interested in singing, I decided to begin vocal training to strengthen my craft. Finally deciding that I wanted to pursue a career as a singer, I dropped out of my first college to transfer to SAE, a school for audio engineers. At SAE, I learned how to engineer and produce, and after graduating I began to write and produce at Icon Studios. While there, I was able to work on songs with Bobby V, Yung Joc, Mase, and others. After Icon, I went on tour with my original music, traveling Texas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and New York. During this time, I was able to open for legendary R&B group Hi-5. In 2015 I began singing on Carnival Cruise ships. This opportunity allowed me to travel many locations including Mexico, Jamaica, Australia, and others. I am now a member of a corporate band, Big City Rhythm. In between shows with the band, I continue to release original music. My newest song “Memories” was released in October. To date, I have five studio projects available along with a number of single releases. I will continue to release music and share my art with as many people as possible.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The hardest thing for me is navigating the music industry. When I started, I thought the industry was about talent and good music. Those things are a part of it, but the music industry is mainly just people. Personalities, egos, friendships, and most of all, money. I used to only focus on music, but I’ve had to learn to understand the other sides of the music industry as well.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a full-time artist. I’m proud of my versatility as an artist, being able to sing with different styles/influences and also having the ability to play the piano live. I think my ample amount of performance experience sets me apart. I have performed A LOT (like a whole lot) and I started performing at a young age. Because of this, I’m very comfortable on stage, making performing very fun and a little carefree.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My mom deserves the biggest credit for starting my musical path. She paid for all the lessons, took me to all the rehearsals and shows before I could drive, and encouraged me every step of the way. I had many teachers, but Reverend Derwin Davis really opened up my mind to the world of music theory. It changed my playing completely.
