Conversations with Jai The Lemonade Lady

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jai The Lemonade Lady.

Hi Jai, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started this Seamoss Lemonade business back in March 2021. I had bought a 12 pack of Mason Jars from Walmart and I didn’t know what to put in them, so I went to Google. I typed in “profitable things in Mason Jars,” and a picture of a Mason Jar full of fruit popped up first. I thought to myself, man! If I add some lemonade to that, I might have a product! The next few days, I spent coming up with a recipe and having my closest friends taste it, and finally, I got the perfect Mix!

One hot summer day, A good friend of mine, Pierre, he told me to freeze them and sell them slushy. That day I made 30 Lemonades, I froze them like he suggested and SOLD OUT! From that point on, I kept that as a part of my business model. Now, I ALWAYS serve them slushy style!

From Summer of 2021 until now, I have had some very steady success. I considered myself a street seller for a while, I would do pop ups, go to local parks, Auto Zones where I knew everyone was hot and needed something refreshing, I sold them out of a local tattoo shop in Marietta, and even a very well known restaurant on Edgewood for a little while.

I got my big break though, at the end of January 2022! I had an idea to send my Seamoss Lemonades to very successful Social Media Influencers that were foodies, ask them to review my drinks on their platforms, and that changed the game for me! The first influencer I sent my Lemonades to was @KimmysKreations.1. I was actually on the way to work one night at FedEx, I was working overnight as a package handler, and all of a sudden my Instagram started buzzing like crazy! I didn’t know where all the traction was coming from, 100 followers, 200 followers, by the time I got off work the next morning, 400 new followers and about ten new website orders! I searched through my Instagram and saw a tag from @KimmysKreations.1 on her page. She had reviewed my drinks and told her followers they needed to get them some Seamoss Lemonade!

After that, I shared her post and tagged another influencer, @DaronTheChef, and she reshared my post and told him to let me send him some Seamoss Lemonade! Now, @DaronTheChef is the Bevologist on social media, ALL his cooking videos he shows his followers what “Bev” he’s drinking with his meal, so I KNEW if I could get him to review my drinks, I was going to blow up! Sure enough, @KimmysKreations.1 tagged him, he followed me that night on social media, a week later I sent him some Seamoss Lemonade and I have been going viral EVER SINCE! I went from 951 followers back at the beginning of February to currently almost 6000 followers! Just this month alone, I have completed over 100 orders from my website, and daily I’m getting anywhere from 5-10 orders.

What’s so ironic about all of this is I actually quit my job at FedEx on February 1st! I told my manager I didn’t want to lift another box, handed in my badge and walked out! Four days later on February 4th, I went viral!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. I moved to Atlanta, from The Bay Area, California, back on February 9, 2021. I have always been a Serial Entrepreneur so I immediately started working on a hustle when I got to Georgia and started the Seamoss Lemonade Business on March 10, 2021. Some of the obstacles I faced was getting my products out there, finding mason jars regularly at my local target and Walmart, hand-cutting pounds and pounds of fresh fruit, keeping my recipe consistent, all the while juggling three children and maintaining a household as a single mother.

The only way I was able to stay consistent and continue building was Prayer, a lot of prayers, and networking! I am very much an introvert/extrovert, so speaking to new people and building new relationships has always been a challenge for me. But I knew with this Seamoss Lemonade Business I was going to need a team and to push myself past my insecurities and outside my comfort zone, so I did! I made it a goal to speak to every person I locked eyes with, even if it was a simple hello, or how are you, I trained myself how to get comfortable speaking to strangers. That helped me significantly when it came to booking pop ups and networking with businesses to partner my product with.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I sell the BEST Seamoss Lemonade and Fruit Infused Seamoss in The South! I specialize in World Class Customer Service, and I am Known as “The Lemonade Lady” all around Atlanta! I am most proud of myself for actually sticking to this business and building it from the ground up. As I mentioned before, I have always been a Serial Entrepreneur. I have sold so many things in the past like detox tea and weight loss products, custom Made underwear, handmade jewelry, handmade soaps, I sold knives as an independent rep, life insurance, I even sold roadside assistance on Facebook one summer in between jobs!

This Seamoss Lemonade Business has been the only business, my whole life that I focused all my energy and superpowers on, and no matter whether the wave was high or low, I stuck with it and never gave up!

What sets me apart from others is Love. Love is the first ingredient in my Seamoss Lemonade, and with every customer interaction, every new person I network with, every challenge I face, and every opportunity I get, I do everything with Love.
