Today we’d like to introduce you to Taye Hyder.
Hi Taye, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been a professional makeup artist for over seven years, but I started out not even knowing such thing existed. I came up when social media was just becoming popular, so I was able to teach myself a lot by watching people like Beat Face Honey. Before becoming a makeup artist, I was a leasing consultant in my apartments I lived in and a Footlocker employee. I had been working that Footlocker job since age 16. Once I decided to take makeup serious I was all in! I went to Ogle, while I was there I got hired at MAC, while I was there I got hired at the strip club doing makeup and eventually, I had to quit all of my jobs because I was making more on my own than I was making being employed. I am now the owner of 2 salon locations called Top Tier Beauty Bar and often work with celebrity clientele. I also have a cosmetic brand called Top Tier Beauty, and I host makeup classes regularly.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely been anything but a smooth road. I used to think that support would take me as far as I wanted to go, but in my last two years of being a makeup artist, I have realized that my own confidence, support, and consistency are the things that will take me the furthest! Luckily for me, I am already artistic, so picking up new techniques is easy. However, being an entrepreneur takes discipline that I am still trying to teach myself to this day.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a TOP TIER makeup artist and business owner. This means I am one of the best. I say this not only because people say this to me but also because it is my priority to make sure all of my clients feel special once they leave me. They literally all leave feeling like we’re friends! I’m proud of how far I have come along with my professionalism and I feel like that has set me apart from others. I specialize in all glam/beauty makeup looks. I recently had the honor of being the makeup artist for Da Brat at her wedding. The fact that she flew me in from Dallas to Atlanta lets me know for sure everything I stated above is true!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is going to the Botanical Gardens with my grandmother. She would take me every time I was having issues with my asthma. The plants would help me breathe better. Well, I don’t know if it really was the plants or the time I spent with her. Maybe a combination of the two, but it worked like magic.
