Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Peak.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started drawing and painting from middle school through high school. I loved it but I didn’t want to take the “starving artist” path. So I did research to find a creative path to take that would also pay. I stumbled across Graphic Design and applied at the Art Institute of Atlanta. I was accepted and did well until it was close to graduation. I struggled with my portfolio class, which was needed to graduate. Despite how well I’d done before in other classes, I wasn’t grasping the concept of design good enough to finish my portfolio. I dropped out of college and continued to work in retail. I went on to enroll at Gainesville State College, now The University of North Georgia. I graduated with my degree in Art but continued to work retail. My mom pushed me to find a job in my field and I haven’t looked back since. I’m now a Visual Merchandising Graphic Designer and I freelance on the side.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. However, nothing that’s worthwhile is ever easy. I lost a job I thought I’d have forever due to the pandemic. I took that time to focus on my freelance business, A.P. Graphics. The job I have now is more rewarding than the previous and I’m grateful to have experienced it all.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Visual Merchandising Graphic Designer. In my current role, I mainly focus on signage in retail stores. My freelance business focuses on everything from websites to social media content and logos. I’m most proud of my current job title. What sets me apart is that I strive for excellence and customer satisfaction. I like to think of myself as a Graphic Designer you can depend on to make sure you get exactly what you’re looking for.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the ability to network in the city. Meeting people here is easy and there’s always something going on. Never a dull moment in the city. However, I hate the traffic.
