Today we’d like to introduce you to Eryn Hill.
Hi Eryn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
So in 2014, I started barber school at Arkansas College of Barbering in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Honestly, I always tell people that barber school was my Plan C. I tried to do military and I tried to do college and neither was it for me. One day I heard a radio advertisement for the barber college, the next day I signed up, after the first week I fell in love with it and the rest is history. Since finishing barber college, I’ve expanded my barber/loctician business into a few different things within the industry. Two of the handful of things I expanded into are my all natural hair care products that I handmake myself and I’m also a licensed barber instructor. I started my natural hair care product making journey in 2016, just mixing different natural products to see what would work. My products range from hair growth oil to beard oil, wave pomade and more. My biggest sellers that I am most proud of is my hair growth oil and my wave pomade. In creating my product line, I wanted to make something that wasn’t too expensive and that actually works. I’ve done really well with that business. In 2020, I felt like I hit a ceiling with my business and with that momentum, I told myself that I was gonna pick up and move to Atlanta and in May 2021, I became a Georgia resident. The biggest motivating force for me to go so hard with my business came in 2018 and that’s my son. Before my son, Zion, I was a movement but with him standing behind me, I’m a force to be reckoned with. I owe him all of my success.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? In starting a business? Haha, definitely not. My biggest challenges come from me wanting to do better and be better honestly. It took me literally two years to even finish barber school because I felt like I needed to make money and being in school was not giving me that. Once I finally finished in 2016, I thought I was in the clear and about to make all types of money right off. WRONG! Then came the part where I had to build clientele. Building clientele is the hardest part of being in the hair and beauty industry. Once I felt like I was in a place where I was comfortable and had built my clientele, in true Eryn fashion, I picked up and moved to Dallas, Texas and had to rebuild again. After being in Dallas for two years, I then went back home to Arkansas and had to rebuild. Now I’m here in Atlanta, which I foresee me being here a long while, doing what you ask? Building again, lol. I’m not going to lie, even though building clientele is indeed a hard thing to do anywhere… I wouldn’t change the path for anything.
