Life & Work with Kebu Commissiong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kebu Commissiong.

Hi Kebu, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in the music industry as a disc jockey, then transitioned to manager roles and played some executive roles as well. Currently, I am the A&R Director at Sentric Music Group (UK based Music Publishing Company). Our mission at Sentric Music Group is “Fair play, for every play. Keeping songwriters, artists, and producers first.” My main goal in taking this new position is to educate and elevate our community on music publishing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The most difficult thing is multi-tasking at times with manager roles and labels roles. Going into 2022, the focus will be to focus on one thing first. Being the A&R Director at Sentric Music is my main focus at the moment.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My first start was being a Disc Jockey, then continuing on to become an A&R, and transitioned into artist management and publishing. I have Previously worked with Artist Such as: Azjah, YK Osiris, Drumma Boy Fresh, Honorable C Note, Lloyd, Money Mann, Shy Glizzy, Cyhi The Prince, J Holiday, Ashanti, etc.

I was also Head of A&R/Music Partnerships: Gas Media Group (signed Platinum Recording Artist AYO&TEO)

and Vice President of Big Cat Records/Tommy Boy Music.

How do you think about happiness?
Family, foundation and elevation. Those are the only things that are most important to me.
