Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Rawlings.
Hi Cindy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I found my love for photography when my husband gave me my first digital camera. I focused on landscapes and animals in the beginning. Friends and family started asking me to take their family pictures, saying that I should take pictures of people. At first, I was resistant, as I am a self-proclaimed introvert, but I began to capture pictures of my friends and family and found that I loved the process, connection, and the end result.
I have been in business for four years now and specialize in maternity, newborn, and family photography. I have a studio in my home, as well as a client closet full of gorgeous gowns for the ladies. I absolutely love what I do!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth, easy road. One of the main struggles I faced (and do face some still today) is imposter syndrome. Am I really good enough? What’s everyone else doing? This honestly held me back the first three years of being in business. It wasn’t until last year, when I said enough is enough and put my focus into what I love that my business actually began to grow. I quit paying attention to what everyone else was doing and put my efforts into actually running my business. And I started paying myself. Boom!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in maternity, newborn, and family photography. I spend a lot of time learning…learning about mama and baby safety, new tools to help with sessions, new ideas and ways of photographing subjects, and tips and tricks for Photoshop. Many newborn clients call me the Baby Whisperer or (baby) Wrapping Ninja.
I am most proud of the connections and relationships forged through my business. What a blessing to be part of the celebrations in my clients’ lives!!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would be going to church with my best friend, Jennie. Each Sunday, we would get dressed up, her dad would tie the bows on our dresses, our hair would be perfect, and then when we arrived, we would roll down the grassy hill. LOL! So much joy in one morning!!
