Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmie Rogers.
Hi Jimmie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up a military brat, in 1995 we were stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery. We settled in Prattville Alabama where in sixth grade, I was tasked with writing a short story for Halloween. What intended to be a short story became my first feature-length horror screenplay. My teacher was very encouraging that I continue writing. My best friend and I quickly started writing story after story…then we found a camera and never stopped. When we started our own production company we named it after our teacher. Eagle Road Productions.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My father left not long after our move to Alabama. I grew up lower class so making films was never financially easy for us. Eventually, we had the ability to borrow from here or there. We were easily overlooked until our late 20s. Even then, I never really took it seriously until my wife encouraged me to “Do or do not”. Soon after we married in 2015, we left for Hollywood where I spent four years bouncing from set to set in a Filmmakers crash course.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make horror and psychological films. I grew up in the TNT and USA horror weekends era. I took it all in at a young age and eventually studied in my own time how to make these films, homemade blood guts and all that fun stuff. I do it all…I write direct and produce. I have a writing partner on the west coast and a fantastic film crew back home In Alabama. I’ve made three short horror films and wrote a number of screenplays over the last few years.
My screenplays have won over fifteen awards and our most recent short “Coffee With Friends” has won multiple awards and is still circulating the festival circuit.
How do you think about happiness?
My family and friends have always supported me in my adventures into filmmaking. My wife has become my writing partner and co-director, she brings out the best in me by keeping things running smooth.
Monster ghosts and goblins as well, the terrifying things in life make me happier than they should, so much so my four years old daughter is starting to question it.
