Rising Stars: Meet Pastor Dr. Shameka R. Pointer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pastor Dr. Shameka R. Pointer.

Hi Pastor Dr. Shameka, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started counseling people a young age and didn’t even know what I was doing. Individuals would come to me and confide in my listening ear with their deepest and darkest issues. I would pray for them and give them sound advice. I became a minister in 2011 in which I feel activated other gifts inside of me including the gift to counsel others. I went from a minister to Evangelist up to now being a Pastor. I had a struggle with separating my counseling practice from my ministry but God eventually explained it and now I totally understand the vision. The Counseling Practice is just another ministry added to Open Heart Christian Ministries International.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have now had my practice since 2018 and after the loss of my office in 2020 because of the Covid impact, I can truly say I am bouncing back greatly. Things are better and clients are on the rise.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Pastor of Open Heart Christian Ministries International and Certified Christian Counselor/ Life Coach of Open Heart Counseling Services Inc. I have my Bachelor of Science in Christian Counseling, Master’s of Christian Psychology and Doctorate of Philosophy in Christian Counseling from Higher Place Christian University. I specialize in my practice in Grief Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, Anger Management, Hypnotherapy, and Transformation Counseling, I am most proud of my strength to not quit but to continue to press and build my practice to a higher level.
