Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayshawn Williams.
DCW, formally known as Dayshawn Charles Williams is a music producer, recording engineer, songwriter and guitarist residing in south Trinidad who focuses on the development of upcoming artists who are deprived of an opportunity to create and further their career in music.
He started music at an early age while being sited as a young, brilliant, talented musician.
By the age of 12 years, he started off as a musical artist, learning to play the guitar from the late Ashford Joseph who had a major influence on developing Machel Montano at an early age, then in 2016 decided to intern at MaxZiMum One Studio where he found the passion for music production.
He has recorded artists & collaborated with producers such as Toppy Boss Leo King, Yung Bredda, Skem, Jadakins, Iwer George, Marge Blackman, Chromatics, DJ Pun, Kyle Phillips & Kenny Phillips.
DCW later moved to Tacarigua to pursue his music career & has been working on other projects with upcoming artists locally.
He is currently working as a music producer at Chromatics Recording Studio and as a recording engineer for Going Global Records and soon branching out & building his own recording studio in Arima.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After leaving UTT, I got an opportunity to intern at one of the biggest recording studios in the country (KMP Music LAB) were straight out of university, I started working in a mainstream recording studio producing some of biggest artists in the Caribbean, Learning from the Legendary Kenny Phillips, Kyle & Kasey Phillips road March winners artists from Machel Montano go straight back to Nebula 868.
It’s May 2018.. my first time working in a studio, I started doing sessions & I didn’t have no equipment of my own or a computer to start producing.
You know when you now start doing something, you’re anxious and excited blindly not knowing a disaster is looking to happen.
As soon as people are included in your business… Especially family…
Everything was going well with me so far. I’m getting paid for my sessions I’m making a substantial amount of money plus I used to do side hustles to make extra cash.
I’m living with my mom & no bills to pay so yea shit was great…
Until I decided to ask my cousin to come to the studio.
Her name I decided to leave anonymous.
She came & we had a meeting & she gave me the idea to form a team so I called a few of my good friends & she can be Management over my business.. since I was very new to the industry.
So I’m November 2018, I decided to form DCW Music under KMP Music lab studios.
Regardless of that be mindful I don’t have my own recording studio so I have to work within the rules & parameters of the owners.
We started managing artists & doing promotions on social media & selling merchandise to advertise the brand.
Until one day, the Artist decided to have a change of heart.
& of course, the right thing to do is not about picking sides with family over business…
But that blew up in my face faster than a rabbit can have sex.
I was blackmailed for money because your own family wants to be in your position more than you…
Threatening to inform my supervisor that I was recording music without paying the studio & someone stole from the studio which I had to be held accountable for everything…
Being labeled as a thief & a con artist was something I never thought would’ve happened to me…
In February 2019, I started looking for work because I got banned from the studio & all my said “ members” left me out in the cold & even my dream girlfriend left me for dead & I felt like committing suicide for a couple of months until my mom decided to send me out to work with a sound company instead of the recording studio…
That surely gave me the encouragement to keep going & distract me from what was going on with me in the past…
One of the previous members I assisted in becoming a producer which I will also leave Anonymous decided that we had to be in competition but I’m not a jealous person…but it have a way of affecting people… when you’re best friend who I can trust to bring in any studio I’m in decides that things going better than them so they sabotage your life… where witchcraft came involved… how can a poor fella come from south Trinidad & doing music & becoming successful… they ain’t like to see me doing good so they decide to send me suicidal… Until my mom had to get involved every year since on multiple occasions until I got a spiritual guard…
They watch my life at face value.
He is a big producer.
He living in a big house by himself.
He working In a big studio.
& with big chain on he neck.
He feels he up dey.
But not knowing what is my sole purpose.
Of helping individuals in need…
Had a friend who was in need of assistance who was going through family problems at her home so stayed with me for a while… so I decided to call her my gf because it’ll be suspicious if they asked why she would be staying with me…
Same said, “friend” decided to get me in trouble & I ended up losing my apartment again… but it wasn’t for the worst… it did felt like the worst because I had a lot of artists coming in to record weekly & I used to get paid for working at home & still paying my rent from my basic salary from my 9-5 job…
Sometimes what doesn’t work out really works out later down…all apart of God’s plan…
God gave me the vision to leave everything behind && go back home in south to focus on life…
I’m horrible at a lot of things… but one thing I’m good at is making music…
Working with these people and all these recording studios are a great blessing and I’m grateful for the opportunity I have obtained throughout my career.
But now, it all feels numb. I feel as if I’m in a hamster wheel just keeps spinning with no progress.
It’s a lot of things that I’m going through that I don’t say… the mental strain is overwhelming at times…
Especially when you’re aware that your mother’s safety is in jeopardy.
When you walk away from your house & not knowing what to expect or who will show up to harm her … & she’s past 60 years already.
It opens a part of me where I have to demand a certain amount of respect from everyone in order to maintain right to strive…
But keeps my mother alive for another decade.
Leaving everything behind in the city & coming back home was a call from God to realign my focus & to be obedient to his words towards my purpose…
Go back home and
Then start your studio
& the money will come
Just have faith
& everything will work out eventually.
It is hard some days especially during the pandemic & that time I had to take away from my music & focusing on my mom & building our house so we can work towards gaining our own future.
But that investment was the best investment I have made in my life so far.
Now our house is up to foundation.
& my studio is under construction.
But I’m still unemployed but I’m building it by the Grace of God.
At the beginning of October.
I met back with Toppy Boss & we spoke like we have been talking everyday even though I was off social media for three months.
The vibes was soo genuine and real that it gave me the encouragement to keep doing music despite what things I may perceive as a discouragement…
He really opened my eyes & gave me a new perspective of looking at life through a different lens… cause when you explain your situation to others, to yourself the situation sounds horrible but when you take that same situation & start counting the blessings within the problems doesn’t feel that bad…
It’s all where you focus your energy at the end of the day.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
BAD LUCK

Then I got a call from Chromatics to have a meeting about having me as an engineer in his studio because of my track record of work from before… &
I was working at the sound company during the day & doing sessions in the studio at night or on my days off.
Depending on if it’s a major artist or a paying client, I might take a day off to schedule a client once it’s above 1k.
Did some shows on the Avenue & being in Hyatt & Hilton almost every month doing events was a great experience for me learning in the field of live sound…
I was renting a cheap one room apartment so I can save money & upgrade from sleeping on a mattress on the floor…
I moved into a bigger apartment I got assistance from a business owner nearby who had a house unoccupied fully furnished… with an ulterior motive for his cause… there is where I started to take my music seriously & recording artist from home… before the pandemic.
It’s been only a few days since the country partially reopens the entertainment business and work has started back for me it’s a lil much because of the amount of unfinished work I had during the Covid plus the current work I have with Toppy Boss Preparing an Album…I only catered for two days in the studio.. & decided to utilize the time & equipment I have available to complete as much work as possible this week so I can be at ease at home knowing my current situation.
I’ve started to network as I got back my phone & my online presence has increased dramatically since I’ve had content from since I moved up in the East in 2019. Met some great guys from TTNL Blasé &. Navy they truly motivate me to keep working & staying consistent to meet up every Thursday night in the studio after their radio show to collaborate on music.
I had to make the sacrifice to be in this environment at this perfect time to grab this opportunity to propel me into the mainstream quality & putting my brand on a larger platform with these creatives.
Even though I’m short on cash my people who I can truly rely on had my back… I appreciate each and every single one of them who supports me with my music…
Sometimes you get more love from people who doesn’t know you that long like hometown… but that is life…
