Life & Work with Trudy Tran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trudy Tran.

Hi Trudy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had a love for art since I was incredibly young. Not only that, but I was an entrepreneur at heart. I remember how I used to sell portraits to my classmates in middle school! I decided my career path during the second semester of my freshman year in college. Although my parents were persistent in me working in the healthcare field, I chose an artistic career not only because of my passion for art but because I wanted to be able to work for myself. Even though it resulted in me working more hours than most jobs, I was doing something that I was incredibly passionate about. Now, I work as a part-time freelance artist until I am finished with school.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t always easy, but most everything isn’t. At the beginning of my journey, it was hard to even have the confidence to take this path, mainly because there are many uncertainties and no guarantees working in the art field. Another thing I had to learn quickly was to value my skills and time because many people don’t value artists as they should.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a freelance artist, I create many different forms of artwork, including oil paintings, digital illustrations, animations, murals, and more. My subject matters range from people to animals, to plant life, to vehicles, to environments, anything. I don’t specialize in any specific area; instead, I consider myself a jack of all trades. I believe that limiting myself to the same subjects and mediums limits my ideas and creativity. I think this is what sets me apart from others: there is no creative challenge that I would not take a shot at.

I don’t have a specific accomplishment that I am the most proud of. Instead, I am most proud of where I stand as an artist today, which is a result of all the achievements and creations accumulated together.
