Today we’d like to introduce you to Shyne Ink.
Hi Shyne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a self-taught tattoo artist of 10 years and the owner of Off The Paper Tattoo Studio.
I started off in my hometown of Chicago where I built my portfolio up enough to be able to branch out. I then moved to Dallas, TX where I spent that time honing in on my craft and from there my partner and I relocated to Charlotte where we opened our private tattoo studio.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the road has not been a smooth one but it’s definitely been rewarding. Being a woman in the tattoo industry is a pain but being a woman of color and gay— that breeds an entirely different level of challenges I’ve managed to navigate with grace over the years. Between the industry being male-dominated and full of drug stereotypes and lack of quality from a lot of artists, it was more than enough reason to go out and get my own. In the end, it all paid off.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I truly specialize in tattooing. Any style, big or small. Within that, I’ve acquired the skill of scar coverups for individuals who are post-surgical or going through gender reaffirming surgeries. My technical application of color in any shade of skin definitely sets me apart from the rest. I’m proud to be as versatile of an artist as I am.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is being able to provide my clients with a quality tattoo experience in a great, safe environment, using some of the best supplies in the industry. I also believe it’s important for everybody of every shade and from every background knows that they will receive an amazing tattoo experience no matter what.
Pricing:
- Studio minimum is $200 flare rate
- Deposits are required to book appointments and are nonrefundable
- $250 hourly for larger projects (coverups, back pieces, etc)
