Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Nicole’ Peppers.
Hi Heather Nicole’, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I found my love for photography at age nine. My father was a photographer, but my mom bought me my first camera which was a Kodak Instant Print. You couldn’t tell me anything when I got that camera. My first job was working for Harry’s Photography when I turned 18 and it was on from there. Harry turned out to be my biggest influence even today. I started doing studio photography when I left Harry’s. I took a break from that after having my children then eased my way back into the game after the loss of my youngest. I began doing sports my oldest daughter’s senior year of high school and it was on from there with that. I worked for the music business for a brief time doing concerts and promos, but that wasn’t for me… I’m more into portraits and the ART of photography more than anything. It took years to find my niche which happens to be portraiture, and my love for football has kept me in the sports game and took me to work for a sports show called The Crush Sports Talk. I’ve taken breaks but the breaks don’t last long because I love photography so much.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I’ve gone months with no photoshoots, been denied access to certain events that I’ve been requested to capture, but each time, I viewed it as an opportunity for something else and other doors. You have to have that attitude to make it. Rejection is God’s way of saying, ‘Hold on, this is not for you.’
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photojournalist and portrait photographer. I specialize in portraits, but my second love is sports. Funny that I’m known more for my sports than I am for portraits, but I think it all bridges together at some point. I almost proud of how far I’ve come with editing. I’m a very detailed person so to learn how to do EVERY thing in editing is awesome. What sets me apart from others is I love to capture expressions. It’s not always about a smile. It’s the cries, the anger, the hurt, the excitement, I want people to FEEL my work and my work to tell a story.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned to be patient. I’m very impatient about a lot of things, but God’s timing is just that.
