Daily Inspiration: Meet Dwayne Calienté

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwayne Calienté.

Hi Dwayne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
At a very young age, I was very creative. Anything that involved creativity I excelled in. Fast forward to 2015, I was going to a Ciara concert in San Antonio, TX. I wanted my brows to be more defined and “perfect” like the celebrities I saw on TV and social media; so I did just that. This was the very first time I touched any beauty products. I like to say it was love at first stroke. From there I realized that this was something I enjoyed and that I had never felt so fulfilled in life before. I practiced/freelanced for years, took courses from some of my favorite MUAs, and attended esthetician school on this journey. I never get complacent and I’m always learning more, elevating my craft, and pushing myself to be a better artist than the day before. 2022, here I am today a pro makeup artist and creative visionary out here chasing my dreams.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe anything in life “worth having” is not going to be easy. Adversity builds character. The beauty industry is steadily evolving every single day, so staying on track with trends, constantly learning new techniques, and constantly trying out formulas to so many products can be challenging at times. But I want to be the best and at the top, so I’ll never stop.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in soft glams, dramatic glams, and gory fx makeup. When anyone sits in my chair they know that they will get up looking nothing short of amazing. What sets me apart is the experience you get from me. It’s a vibe; but you’ll have to book an appointment to see what all the hype is about.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck hasn’t played a role in my business/life. Hard work, dedication, late nights/early mornings, tenacity, and just wanting to be the best has played a role in my business/life. In this industry, you have to be able to deliver results, make the client feel amazing, and execute.
