Exploring Life & Business with Simone Sumlin of GalleryHouse Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Sumlin.

Hi Simone, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?Hello, my name is Simone. I am the CEO & Founder of GalleryHouse Events & Content. We are a Black, female, veteran owned event company and content house. Our mission is to showcase the everyday luxury of Black excellence – in art, in business, and in life.

I was always enterprising. I started a little cleaning company in my neighborhood around age 10.

My parents owned real estate as well as construction companies when I was in school, so I got to see up close what Black excellence could look like.
I was exposed to a lot of culture and opportunity from a young age, which gave the future such context for me that I wanted to connect those in our community who have access to those in our community who want opportunities.
In 2015, I took years of making connections between rappers, creatives and executives to birth Sage Endeavors and GalleryHouse Events.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every entrepreneur faces challenges as they embark upon the journey to their success – whatever that looks like.

I’ve experienced my fair share of challenges on my journey: from hiring nightmares to juggling motherhood and household dynamics to simply being respected as a Black, female entrepreneur.

I love a good challenge though. Pressure makes diamonds; steel sharpens steel.

As you know, we’re big fans of GalleryHouse Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At GalleryHouse Events, we help Black businesses expand and impress in a sustainable way.

From small business shops and art-based mixers to privately-curated getaways, GalleryHouse Events bring wealth, wellness and revival to the forefront of your life.

Our ecosystem of exclusive events, products and services help introduce world-class Black and Brown businesses you should come to know and love. That is what I’m proudest of.

What sets us apart is how we support our client companies. I always say, tell me where you’re trying to go and let’s build a bridge there. Everything we do is custom. We water each flower differently.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
COVID-19 showed us just how important a meaningful connection is.

The virus definitely brought us all back to the basics. It brought me back to the enduring concept of fellowship in the Black community: from hair braiding to playing spades, to praying together…

I wanted to find a way to start passing things down again.
