Exploring Life & Business with Sade Johnson of Bodies of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sade Johnson.

Hi Sade, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
A Harvard girl, struggling to afford college. All I had was a dollar and a dream. I knew I was destined for greatness but wasn’t quite sure how I was going to get where I wanted to be. Worked two jobs, while taking college courses here and there. Trying to get into nursing school but faced many challenges. But giving up wasn’t an option, never have been. So I took a different route. I enrolled myself in a private college, which led me to 70k worth of debt with an Associate in Applied Science – Medical Assistant. I didn’t know how they expected me to pay those loans back when I only made ten to fourteen dollars an hour. I didn’t realize how much I had racked up in debt until Sallie Mae was after me. At that time, I was just focused on surviving the hood and getting my education.

That’s when I decided to take my talents to Atlanta, Ga in 2013. I hopped in my ’05 Monte Carlo and headed south. I didn’t know where my life was headed but it could only be up at this point. Again, a few bumps in the road, more debt, and a young black female just trying to get into a nursing program.

Years after I had relocated, I remember pulling up to my apartment complex and my phone rang. “Hello Sade, this is so and so from Georgia State. You’ve been accepted into our nursing program but we haven’t heard back from you. A letter was mailed out to you. If you would like to start this upcoming semester. I need the following documents today.” I probably did a hundred miles per hour to the campus to submit my documents. I was finally a nursing student. A depressed nursing student. No one told me nursing school was that stressful. I had lost friends, missed events, and was broke once again. But trouble doesn’t last long.

Two years later, SADE JOHNSON, REGISTERED NURSE. I finally did it. I was already working as a tech so I was able to transition over to a nurse in one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the state of Georgia. If that ER didn’t make me a strong nurse, I don’t know what did. I got my butt handed to me every shift. But I walked out of that job every day knowing I made a difference.

Moving along, I decided to start travel nursing. To the west coast, I went. I worked my first contract in San Jose, California. I always dreamed of living in Cali which I did for two years before starting my business. During the height of covid, I had worked long hours, several days a week in the ER. My off days weren’t really off days because I had ended up working in the surgery centers. You will later learn how I ended up in the specialty I am in now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road has been a very rocky one. But it was all for the better. Nothing was able to break me. This reminds me of a time when I was a nursing student, a former colleague (who was a nurse at that time) had said I wouldn’t make it as a nurse. I had a point to prove, many points at that. What God has for me is for me. Even though I was emotionally disturbed by that statement, I remained humble and kept my faith. With that being said, I had graduated top of my class. I knew then just like I know now that my purpose in life is to help people that’s why I never gave up when people doubted me.

Starting a business was also a struggle for me. I had no idea where to begin. At this point, all I knew was nursing. I had no clue on how to start or run a business. During my start-up, I had one foot in and one foot out. I was trying to manage a business and do travel nursing at the same time. That didn’t work out well. I was scared to become a full-time entrepreneur. I liked my consistent checks but didn’t like the commitment that came with it. That is when I knew, to be a successful business owner, I had to step out of my comfort zone. So, that led me to invest in myself and my business 100%.

We’ve been impressed with Bodies of Atlanta LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
A few years ago, I met two amazing nurses by the name of Dontricia and Shanavia. I was the baby nurse in the crew, but they took me under their wings. I traveled with them on covid assignments, took trips, and enjoyed life. But one thing we all had in common was, getting to that bag! Not any kind of bag though. We knew we deserved better. The covid burn-out was real at this point. We knew we wanted to be entrepreneurs, successful ones at that. Shanavia had experience in the post-op field already and was doing very well within her business; which she later introduced me to. We saw a need for nurses within the post-op community. As nurses, we are able to provide an array of services in the comfort of their homes, hotel, or Airbnb. Clients love convenient care. After looking further into cosmetic procedures, Dontricia and I flew to Miami for training and we now all own our own businesses.

I, Sade, am the CEO / Founder of Bodies of Atlanta LLC. I started Bodies of Atlanta also known as “BOA” in July of 2020. I’ve learned so much along this journey and it allowed me to be able to grow with my business. Bodies of Atlanta started off specializing in post-operative care. I assisted dolls (both men and women) reach their aesthetic goals after their cosmetic procedure. I have now expanded services to aid in beauty, body, and flo! This means, that Bodies of Atlanta has/will be launching services that include beauty enhancement (botox and fillers), body contouring, post-operative care, and IV Hydration Therapy. I am proud to announce that a MedSpa is in the making! Until then, I am offering concierge and in-suite appointments.

The thing that set me apart from others is I am a perfectionist. I want nothing but the best for my clients. I educate and assist them all in a safe and speedy recovery. I also lend a listening ear, all while encouraging them to “TRUST THE PROCESS” during this difficult time of healing.

Another fun fact about me, I like to pour back into entrepreneurs who are looking to start their post-op and/or body contouring business. I was once lost, and sometimes I still feel that way. But the least I can do is share what I’ve learned while embarking on this journey.

I am most proud of how my business has grown over time and the steps I have taken to make my dream and brand come true. I take pride in everything I do and TOP TIER care is my PRIORITY!
