Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Kaylin.
Hi Kris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey at South Carolina State University. I created a web series call Bulldog Bite, I borrowed the concept of Guy Code/Girl Code but I made it for SC State but all HBCU’s and PWI’s loved the show. Once I graduated from South Carolina State University, I created a series called “The Charleston Summer Series” I interviewed Jharrel Jerome when is was filming Mr. Mercedes. Along with local chefs, boutique owners, and musical artists. I realized that my interview with music artists received more views so I made that my focus.
Next Up Charleston opened the doors of the radio station for me! I’ve been in radio for four years and I love it. I’ve interviewed a ton of people from Kanye West, Anthony Anderson, 50 Cent, Brandy and Megan Thee Stallion to name a few. It’s given me the platform to allow the local artists the opportunity to get their music heard on Chucktown Hit Factory.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not. The glitz and glamour look amazing on the outside but it’s a lot of hard work. Consistently reminding myself to stay focused on myself and my journey. Understanding that it’s not instant gratification but the work I’m doing now is building a great legacy for me and the Kris Kaylin brand.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am Kris Kaylin, the Weekend Diva! I’m a radio personality for Z93 Jamz in Charleston S.C. I’m known for being an amazing radio personality and the best host in the Carolinas! What set’s me apart is the fact that it’s only 1 weekend diva.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Charleston, I was born and raised here. Downtown baby to be exact. The food is amazing along with the community. I don’t like the idea that some spaces don’t welcome Black people. It’s 2022, you cannot extract the people from the culture.
