Today we’d like to introduce you to Tee Washington.
Hi Tee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2003, I started doing standup comedy. Quickly became a regular at the former Punchline Comedy Club in Atlanta. Within a year, I was hosting and featuring. In 2006 while working on a comedy tour, my sister passes away which made me take a few years off from performing. In 2013, I returned to the stage and for the first time told stories about my real life. This Performance turned into my first One Man Show in 2014 entitled, “Are You Happy Now?” which features stories about my sister and I.
From 2014-2016, I grew on social media and that had me being contacted to do my own radio show. This led to my next One Man Show entitled, “Meet The Claires”. In 2017, Hurricane Irma ripped through Florida leaves a lot of people in bad times. So, I quit my job and went to Florida to work for a short while. When I came back to Atlanta, I had a lump some of money and I used that to invent and build a product, along with my friend Ashley S. Cleveland, called Halo Slippers. Two years later I entered into a competition for QVC and The Home Shopping Network and became a finalist. I was invited to pitch to the judges in Florida and ended up getting a deal to sell Halo Slippers on their network. In 2019, I went back to entertaining and created a comedic biker brand on social media that quickly went viral and now has close to 200k followers @dearbikegods on Tiktok. In 2021, I performed my third and final One Man Show entitled “Petty” and in May of 2022 shot my first film based on my first One Man Show. In July, I started entering the short film into film festivals and within a couple of weeks, we’ve been selected to two festivals and awarded second place in the first festival. And potentially more awards in the upcoming festival. I really just learned over time to do what makes me feel good creatively and the rest will follow.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been tough at times. From being a young rising name in the Atlanta comedy scene to my sister passing away and quitting comedy, Which put me into a depressed state. To almost ten years later, being on TV for a product I invented and winning that competition. That alone is unthinkable to me. Then getting back on stage after all those years to turning the pain into jokes and more recently a film. I’m thankful I got to change the narrative.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Former Standup comedian. Turned to more of a storyteller and performer. To do 3 One Man Shows, that I used my own money to produce each one. Also, an entrepreneur creating a product from scratch. Now short film writer, director, producer and actor on the list with our film P.S. Thank You. co-directed by Kwame Morgan and Clinethia “Neat” Chaney. I think my most proud moment was winning on Home Shopping Network competition called The Big Find. We did our presentation and proceeded to walk out the room. The panel called me and Ashlee S Cleveland back into the room and said “You get the big ticket” Which meant they know they want our product instead of waiting a few weeks to decide if they want it. That’s a great feeling.
