Inspiring Conversations with Ashleigh Wingfield of Yvonne Fields designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Wingfield.

Hi Ashleigh, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started sewing In Elementary school. I will get hammy downs from my sister in Upcycled them. As I got older, I started making my own clothes from scratch, teaching myself how to sew along the way. I thought it participating in fashion shows nationwide. Then in 2016 A partnered with cup and learning as a sewing instructor teaching kids sewing through math.

In 2017, we were able to bring the program to Friendship public charter school at Northeast Washington DC. In 2019 Yvonnefieldsdesigns was featured in BuzzFeed showcasing her spring collection presented at New York’s Harlem Fashion Week. In 2020, your van feels as I was featured in Revo for magazine sprayed with singer and songwriter brave Williams as the Model. In 2021 YvonneFields water weather collection swept the east coast Presented at New York Harlem fashion week in 2021 and in the fashion week as soon as this collection hit the wrong way it was a crowd Favorite. No, you’re wrong feels design is taking a look at the next generation by mentoring other designers in April 2022 Yvonne Fields showcases her first minty when she opens the show forIndy fashion week.

Yvonnefieldsdesigns is also a custom designer and has been making clothes for customers for the past ten years.

Although your mom feels is a designer, she tries her best to give it back using her gift by providing classes to kids to learn how to sew.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I was younger I took remedial classes to help me learn how to read better…. You don’t always think that reading is an obstacle as a designer but when it comes to completing contracts and really moving your business to the next level being able to read and write is very important but it’s something that I’m working to overcome.

My inability to read well has also given me a little bit of anxiety and I also have ADHD So it can make it a little hard to carry out tasks and feel motivated to complete all assignments.

As you know, we’re big fans of Yvonne Fields Designs. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a custom designer that specializes in pants and jumpsuits, but I’m known for my African-inspired looks.

I can’t tell you what sets me apart from other designers you would just have to experience me. Because what sets me apart is the vision that I’m able to see for my clients. I connected the history in what they are doing and where they are going to their attire. This is how we find an outfit that stands outside of time. So you can be fashionable forever

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was very creative as a child when I was growing up. I see my dad used to make old home movies by himself so I started to do the same. When I first seen the movie crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon I got my camcorder tied a rope to a backpack and threw it over a tree and caught myself re-creating the scenes in the movie.

I remember as a child I used to always get in trouble for cutting up my clothes my mom used to give me my sister’s old hammy downs and I wasn’t going like that. So I would cut up all of the clothes and make something new I got in trouble but I was still rock in my own style in that may be proud.
