Today we’d like to introduce you to Cachief Latchman.
Hi Cachief, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised (partially) in the land of one love; Jamaica. Growing up around influential music is the reason why music is my first love! It influenced me to practice producing my friend’s music projects while still a teenager. I always looked up to executives like Diddy and Lenny Santiago (Kodak Lens). Listening to one of my favorite artists Kanye “College Drop Out” influenced me so much that I actually became a college dropout! Contrary to the stigma that associates with college dropouts, it worked out in my favor. I started by becoming a party promoter. While working a full-time job as a manager for fast food, I would leave work and go straight to the party scene in NYC (without knowing anyone in the club). It was cool, but my life-changing moment happened when my friend Scrillz told me to put my camera that I had laying around to use.
From then on, it’s been a blur. I’ve captured endless amounts of industry moments (behind and in front of the scenes). This new life of entrepreneurship helped me connect with so many people, even made some great friends. Meeting people like Swaggy Sie; as I helped her with his social media branding, she helped me by connecting me with others in the field. I was having a great run in this industry and then… COVID hits. Just like everyone else, I needed to find more than one hustle. Thanks to my friend James Jones who I partnered with on brokering yachts in NYC; I took that skill to Miami (one of the places I grew up in). In addition to that, I added my expertise in branding/marketing, artist/music management, and all things luxury in nightlife (NYC & MIA). All the obstacles and roadblocks made my company what it is today; 10K Entertainment!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve had many challenges such as being an immigrant with an accent, juggling a 9/5 and entrepreneurship, people labeling me as just a photographer and more! God is first, and directly after is ambition and determination. I never let my failures stop me, it teaches me and pushes to try again (now with knowledge I’ve gained).
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in luxury lifestyle entertainment and marketing. I am proud that I’ve been able to take experience from each and every field I’ve worked in (specifically photography) and applied every skill to big a bigger empire. What makes me stand out from others is that I do everything in-house — whatever needs to be done, I can get it done.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking is the first step; building and nurturing meaningful relationships is what really matters. The more people you meet, the more likely you are to find someone who is interested in teaching you and helping you grow. You have to be confident in your work, but you also have to be teachable.
