Rising Stars: Meet Kennedy Marie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Marie.

Hi Kennedy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been immersed in the beauty industry for the vast majority of my life. I decided that I wanted to be a hairstylist when I was about five or six years old. Doing hair provided an escape for me as a child. I noticed at a young age that when I was mad or sad, it was what I turned too. I couldn’t always control my surroundings or the situations around me, but I did know that I could make something pretty and control the outcome, the end result. Transforming a look brought me peace…it became my happy place. That alone brought me joy, but when I saw my aunt making a living from the very thing that I used as therapy, I knew it was my calling.

After graduating high school, I enrolled in college and worked retail. I was depressed, unfulfilled and completely unsatisfied with where I was. During my junior year of college, I decided that I had enough. I completed my last college final in December 3, 2016 and enrolled in cosmetology school in January 2017. To date, that is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Everything in my life changed after that. When I was not walking in my purpose, I was not practicing the independency that I wanted. I would have to reach out for financial assistance from others to make ends meet. After releasing everything I wasn’t satisfied with, I was able to start living the life that I desperately wanted and needed to be well.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Fortunately for me, I have never had the stress of building my clientele. I have always been favored in that area of my career as clients have come to me easily and quite honestly I have attracted my ideal clients. Unfortunately, I have had to learn how to stand alone at times. I have operated through several salons and each time I have entered into a competition between other stylists and me that is unbeknownst to me. I am an advocate for healthy competition but these environments were, for a lack of better words, unhealthy, In these environments, I was seen as the opposition because of my talent and gifts. It often left me thinking I was the problem. I went through several seasons of self-reflection to try and understand the reasons behind it all. As I have moved to working in my own suite, it is my goal to give the opposite experience to newer stylists and even seasoned stylists. I want to always host an environment that is welcoming and encourages professional and personal growth. I want to show others in my industry that there’s enough money, clients and success for everyone.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a master cosmetologist that specializes in hair color and haircutting services. My passion is what sets me apart from others. I have spent my entire life in hair salons. Whether it was as a customer, salon assistant, stylist, even as a salon owner.

I am most proud of my ability to learn. I am always in learning mode, soaking up knowledge. Whether I am asking questions or just paying attention to the way others achieve their goals. I am constantly looking for more to learn so I have more to offer.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can support me by scheduling appointments and coming in for a Flutter Hair Salon experience. Soon, I will be offering one on one courses. My plan is to offer silk press, color and extension classes. I am excited to share my knowledge with other beauty professionals.
