Today we’d like to introduce you to Dona Doll.
Hi Dona, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Haiti, I traveled to the U.S around age seven. I was raised in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina my family and I moved to Forth Worth, TX. I came from a religious family but I myself just believe there is a God and do right by others. I traveled to Haiti throughout my teenage years and that’s when I started making my own sound. As of now, Dona is a full-time mom, business owner, and female international rapper.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a female artist is very challenging but being a Female Rapper is much worse there is a lot of comparisons, judgments, and boycotts. The number one struggle I believe that all female artists go through is trying to work with someone professionally but they’re expecting some things unprofessional in return. Nothing in life is smooth to be honest, but with a lot of courage and empowerment, you’ll pull through.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Dona Doll is a Haitian Female rapper/songwriter that combines two languages (Haitian Creole and English) together in her Songs! I love to write about being a boss, being independent, and challenging yourself where I come from most women are known for being a housewife and that’s it to your life. I am proud to bring the Bad B attitude into my culture, to make women like myself understand that we can be anything we want to be as long as we work really hard for it.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Sharing positive energy with others brings me joy. I know it sounds cliché, but the life we are in right now we feed off negativity more.
