Rising Stars: Meet Candace Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Morris.

Hi Candace, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Candace Morris Owner of Candace Customs Beauty I’m 27 years old and I’m an Albany Georgia native . I moved to Atlanta a year in a half ago to grow my business and attend cosmetology school. I started this all as a hobby, when I was younger I would always get my hair done every 2-4 weeks at the time I was getting relaxers. After a while, I decided to transition over to being natural and the process was processing!! If you know what I mean, lol. It was so difficult to manage my hair at first so I needed a quick convenient solution while transitioning, so I got into making wigs for myself and everything went from there. This story gets even more interesting because I never wanted to do hair I always wanted to be in the medical field, in which I was. I obtained an allied health care degree and a Respiratory Therapy degree but in the midst of completing my program, I was still making wigs! Sooner or later I fell more and more in love with what I was doing I found myself more interested in the hair industry than I did as my job as a therapist. So I eventually left the medical field and I began making wigs and doing hair full-time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A lesson that i have learned along the way is you can not rush the process. No matter how bad you feel you want something or how bad you feel like you’re ready for something. If it’s not your time then it’s not your time; However when it is your time nothing can stop it and it feels so much more rewarding! You have to trust the process as well it builds a lot in you so you can become the the best person equip for what you are trying to do.

No! It absolutely has not been a smooth road! Till this day stuff still gets so hard! I think my biggest struggle before I got to where I am now is actually putting myself out there as a “wig maker” and not having the most support as I wanted to start out. In my mind, I felt like people looked at what I was taking serious as a joke and it kind of discouraged me a bit and has been doubting myself for a moment but I just kept at it. I just kept at it and stayed consistent.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I not only make wigs but I am a hairstylist located in Atlanta Georgia. I also do natural hair and provide hair extension services. I offer 1-on-1 classes as well as a virtual wig making class on how to make wigs. My most recent project is my “Virtual Pink Print” which are virtual educational videos teaching anyone how to do a lot of the things that i do and to assist with everyday struggles of having a wig or hair extensions. These videos are also made for my stylists or wig makers to learn new and profitable skill that they may not already know to increase their sales and revenue.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years I see a lot of looks, styles, and hair services being cycled back around. I feel like the hair industry is the most inevitably changing industry there is and there’s no putting a stop to the constant changes. As newer generations come up and as technology advances, there is no limit to where and what this industry is going to do. I love that for us! It keeps the excitement up and as a beauty professional, I’m always learning which also a great thing!
