Check Out Teasy Shiruo Stolarski-Sun’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teasy Shiruo Stolarski-Sun.

Hi Teasy Shiruo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
A native of Shanghai, China, Teasy Shiruo Stolarski-Sun is a children’s wear designer/textile artist who is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.

As a children’s wear designer, Teasy wants the wearer to play and learn through her designs. Her design approach is to create interactive toy garments through her knowledge of textiles and her unique illustration style. Children will learn from what they wear as they play and use their imagination to create special moments with their outfits. Teasy wants the designs to entertain children and inspire them to lead a happy and positive life.

Besides fashion, Teasy is passionate about bird conservation. She is discovering ways to combine her knowledge of fashion and love for birds to create designs that create a better future for birds. She recently started her project, “The Bird Lab” in November 2022.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As a creative being, the most challenging thing is to balance my passion and the commercial value in my designs at the same time. To create something that’s not just for me but still keeps them true to myself. It’s definitely not easy to be a successful designer as a career.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Children’s wear to me is all about fun and imagination! I love to create textiles that are part of the clothes for kids to interact and play with. I love to hear people say that my designs are original and reflect who am I as a person. Some of the design techniques I often apply are needle felting, machine knitting and illustration. Besides working on my own design pieces, I am currently designing for a NYC-based clothing company and creating unique prints for babies! I am really excited because what I do isn’t just for mass market. The hand-drawn prints all tell their own stories and will be released for Spring 2023.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always an adventurous kid growing up. I liked to try different things and I would develop a new hobby every few months. I was always trying to figure out the things that I liked to do. And my mom was really supportive all the time. Childhood experiences have a great impact on me and are part of the reasons that I wanted to be a children’s wear designer. I believe childhood plays a great factor in an individual’s life. It will be amazing if my designs can play a positive role on a child’s life.

I also loved birds when I was a little kid. My grandfather kept parrots as pets and I would listen to sparrows chirping during sunset after school every day. Even though I didn’t develop my passion for bird conservation until later on, I birds have always had a special place in my heart.
