Rising Stars: Meet Trip Rexx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trip Rexx.

Hi Trip, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Trip Rexx, I’m a Toronto-born rapper/singer/producer living in LA. I started playing music in grade school and wrote/recorded my first rap when I was 14 years old. I decided to make music my career when I dropped out of college in 2017 to pursue my passion more seriously; now I’m working closely with Grammy-nominated producer Rey Reel (of Drake’s Trophies and Beyoncé’s Flawless) and have a growing fanbase both locally and internationally, with hundreds of thousands of streams across Spotify and Apple Music (millions across all platforms). My biggest influences in Hip Hop include Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Future, Young Thug, and too many more to name, as well as many in other genres. Like them, I like to experiment with melodic and off-kilter deliveries, sometimes using Auto-Tune and other vocal effects to accentuate my unique voice and its many tones. This, coupled with my “crazy pen” (my manager’s words) and ability to connect with audiences through honesty and vulnerability, all make me a radio-ready artist with deeper layers to even my catchiest records.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been yo and down, as life tends to be. I spent much of my childhood bouncing around different parts of the United States and struggled with feelings of loneliness, isolation, anxiety, & depression from a young age. I quickly turned to art as an escape, trying my hand at different forms of self-expression throughout grade school like drawing, theater, & a variety of instruments. As an adolescent I fell in love with alternative rock & hip-hop music, eventually experimenting with rapping & songwriting throughout high school. A perpetual misfit & rebel in those days, I had experiences with psychedelic drugs as a teenager which sparked a philosophical & spiritual awakening, ultimately leading me to my moniker. After my parents’ divorce, going through an abusive relationship, dropping out of college, nearly losing my mother to breast cancer, and her subsequent development of manic depression all in the span of just a few years, I was able to really find my voice speaking on mental health, existentialism, self-liberation, and interpersonal relationships. I think the ups make the downs worth it, and the downs make me appreciate the ups. If it weren’t for the hardships I’ve been through I wouldn’t be the artist I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a recording artist, songwriter, producer, and performer. I specialize in songwriting, specifically in the hip-hop, pop, and rock genres. I’m most proud of the 1 million Spotify streams I’ve accrued on my song Me & My Bimmer! My unique voice and sound set me apart from others, which has a quality and vibe all its own.

What’s next?
I plan to tour the world as a performer and dominate the Billboard charts as both an artist and songwriter! More immediately, I’m planning to start touring America as well as potentially Europe and drop a slew of new music next year that I’m very excited to debut seeing as it’s a bit of a new direction for my sound.
