Inspiring Conversations with Jackey Lynch of Dreamline Music Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackey Lynch.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m originally from Mississippi. I’ve lived all over the place due to my dad being Military but Mississippi is truly where I’m from. I was an athlete and academic in high school but I found my passion in music. I was singing in church choirs and learning how to play the piano by ear. One day I realized I wanted to make music and started using dial-up internet to download programs to record on an old Acer computer my parents had. I’m sure I tore that computer up at least five times, lol. I started producing my own songs. There weren’t that many people in the small town and surround, that I was from, making music so I just started producing and writing my own songs, honestly for practice. In 2004, I graduated high school and attended Jackson State University where I ran track for a short time as well. Of course, the music followed me and I started working with other guys in the dorms and a few people in the City of Jackson MS. I didn’t think I was that good but we were having fun.

One day I met a former mentor, Troy Taylor, on campus during Trey Songz’ cingular wireless tour. I gave their road manager a demo CD and Troy called me while on the road and welcomed me to his fold. He mentored me for a few years after that, even during my stints of quitting college and becoming a father and all the ups and downs of life. That’s where I got introduced to the music industry of things and started trying to land songs with Trey Songz, Brandon Hines, Carl Thomas and a few others. I eventually went back to JSU in 09 and graduated in 2011 and moved to Atlanta the following year while working on my Master’s degree at Full Sail University. I have to say, Atlanta whooped my ass for a little while lol. I was grinding on the ATL independent circuit with the likes of Big Cheeko aka the Soul God, Tuki Carter, Dreamer, Grip Plyaz( r.i.p ), Pill, and others. I wasn’t making any money. Hell, they weren’t either. It was all about the love and journey of creating dope music. But man I was broke lol. In the background, I was building a Record Label and management company, Dreamline Music Group, after another mentor (Linx kanek) thought I’d be a good music manager/A&R. Fast forward, here I am managing amazing talent and building dope songs. Hopefully, I can continue to take part in some amazing careers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Heck no it wasn’t smooth and sometimes it still isn’t. Just like my other businesses… things take timing, execution and MONEY! Lol. Sometimes life doesn’t care about any of that and it’s going to do what it does.. all you can do is be prepared or hang on tight to something as the storm comes through and passes. In the distant past, I’ve dealt with eviction notices, negative bank balances.. late credit cards.. lowered/closed corporate credit limits.. lack of inspiration.. having to start from nothing all over again… you name it… Artists leaving my company and going elsewhere. Even divorce… years back, I had to choose between food or being able to catch MARTA( I stole as many rides as I could get away with lol ). You have to stay the course and push past those obstacles. That’s what makes the journey so great. When I look back at those times, I find myself in appreciation. Those trials molded me and helped me take nothing for granted. All wins and blessings are cherished, celebrated and built upon.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Of course!! Troy Taylor, Linx Kanek, my wife Monica Lynch who is also my business partner. These are some of the people who have really shaped who I am today as a music man and entrepreneur.

Troy Taylor (Boyz II Men, Mary J Blige, Ronald Isley, Tyrese, Carl Thomas, B2K, and a further, ever-growing list of music legends past and present) helped me hone in on what R&B is supposed to sound like. He told me nothing else matters if the music sucks, so start with good music first. Linx Kanek (Yelawolf, Day 26) helped me look at the music business beyond being a music producer and recording engineer. He knew that there was more that I could offer before I knew I had it to offer. My wife helps me manage my day-to-day. Heck, she helps me manage me. I keep everything in my head. She helps me bring things to life. Serves as my council. She’s my co-investor in everything that’s being built. She deserves so much credit!
