Meet Devin Thurmon of I Am a Real Barbee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Thurmon. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Devin Thurmon, better known as Barbee, her maiden name, is an up and coming brand, sure to become synonymous with her already iconic last name. As a multi-media personality, socialite, influencer, and Serial business owner, this female mogul is on the fast track to stardom and becoming the center of attention. Growing up was an adventure for the Michigan native. As the oldest of seven children, there was never a dull moment in her home. As a young girl, her mirror was her first audience. She used to pretend she was on television, singing, dancing and modeling. As a teenager, she grew to love entertaining, making people laugh, and becoming an influencer among her peers. In 2008, Barbee landed her first hosting job as a Diva Doll for underground hip hop performers. In 2011, she became a writer with T and B Films, a popular local film company based out of Detroit, Michigan.

During that time, she also attended Specs Howard School of Media and Broadcasting, concentrating in Radio and graduating in 2011. Barbee landed her first big break in 2012 as a producer on “Hard Core Pawn Shop”, which aired on TruTV and TBS. In 2013, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia to become a radio personality on Pop Life Radio’s “The Morning Show”. In 2015, Barbee joined IBNX Radio on the hit show “Hot List with Barbee” and “The Pregame with Karrass Jordan”. Barbee was later awarded Internet Female Radio Personality of the Year at the Atlanta Hip Hop Awards in 2018.

Barbee decided to pursue her passion for beauty and health in 2019, launching Barbee Doll Beauty mink lashes. The mink lashes send the powerful message that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Barbee’s goal and mission is to enhance the confidence of women across the world. She also founded the I Am A Real Barbee’ non-profit, focusing on women’s mental health and empowerment. The interactive Not Your Ordinary Women workshop is held quarterly, providing an intimate setting for women to express and work towards being the best version of themselves. I Am A Real Barbee stands on the creed that “I am perfect being me, I am the best version of myself and I love me”. Barbee just released her first “self affirmation” album available on all platforms entitled “Ready, Set, Goals”. A must listen!!!!

Most recently, Barbee launched “Nuroc Global” with her husband, a music placement and distribution company for indie artists. In 2022, NuRoc partnered with Roc Nation for distributions. She is preparing to launch a new show on NuRoc Radio in Winter 2023. The future is bright for Devin “Barbee” Thurmon, with a fledgling modeling career and several acting opportunities. Barbee has interviewed Larenz Tate, Shad Moss, Jermaine Dupri, Reginae Carter, Trey Songz, J. Cole, and Jeremih, Timothy Richardson, Marcus Houston, Golden Brooks, Kyla Pratt, and numerous public figures, from radio to the red carpet.

Devin’s goal is to have a positive impact on people across the world, leaving a loving and caring impression to whoever she encounters.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Constant challenges with myself I was my worst enemy; I didn’t realize that my success was so much harder because I made it that way. Atlanta is one of the largest media markets so you have to focus on being different but also yourself. So I moved around on quite a few radio platforms until my husband created a platform just for me. Working a 9-5 and maintaining appearances and events was an even more challenge; it takes money to make money. You have to invest in yourself. Becoming a serial entrepreneur was not always something I thought I would be, and when I started my first business I faced some highs and lows. So I had to create a sense of balance so I could get to where I am today.

We’ve been impressed with I Am a Real Barbee, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I Am A Real Barbee is a nonprofit that focuses on women’s mental wellness, empowering women mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. We hold interactive women expos annually, providing an intimate setting to express yourself and work towards being the Best version of yourself. I Am A Real Barbee stands for “I am perfect being me”, I am the best version of myself and I love me.

The I Am A Real Barbee women’s expo transformed into workshops to meet the demand of meeting more often. The workshops are“Not your ordinary workshop”, why you ask? We interact on an intimate level allowing real conversations and real emotions.

A place away from the distractions a gathering that will change and elevate you. At this workshop, our guest speakers interact on a deeper level making the women in the audience truly relate. It is not always about being beautiful and having more money than the next women, it’s about women excelling lifting other women up. We also do multiple take-home exercises so you can continue to work on becoming your “Best” self after you leave our workshop.
