Meet Emily Gonzalez-Salgado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Gonzalez-Salgado.

Hi Emily, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share a bit about myself. My name is Emily Gonzalez and I am a makeup artist, tooth gem and waxing Specialized. All my life I’ve been interested in every aspect of beauty, mostly makeup because you can create art. Ever since I had my quinceañera at age 15 I would practice on myself or just about anyone I can get my hands on. I later saved up & started taking courses to better expand my techniques. It’s not about being motivated but about being disciplined and determined. Motivation only lasts for so long but being disciplined is even when you are not at your fullest inspiration, you still show up for yourself. To this day I always educate myself to keep up with the latest trends. After having a full-time job and doing makeup part-time. I decided to take a chance and open up a small studio for my clients, in which now I expand not only makeup but service tooth gems and waxing. As stated before, I continue educating myself and I’m currently enrolled at Gwinnett Tech to receive my cosmetology license which will help me better service current and my future clients.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My dad always told me to sacrifice one year of my life, to achieve many years of success. Becoming a first-generation business owner in a Hispanic household hasn’t been so easy. My parents immigrated for my brother and me to achieve our goals. Having undocumented parents meant spending less time with them because they simply had to work to provide for our family. This pushed me to start working at the age of 15 and Graduate high school sooner. I have failed many times emotionally in building a business. But never lost hope, we have gone through having no light, hot water, and simply just not being able to afford the expensive materials needed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do specialize in makeup, I love doing quinceañera glam looks the most. It just brings me back beautiful memories. I am currently transitioning to editorial and film industry makeup. I was able to attend MUBA master class in which I was able to learn and practice the “miss universe look,” I’m super grateful to expand my knowledge and soon work for a high-end company. Being a makeup artist isn’t just being able to “ apply makeup “ but making the client feel comfortable, and confident and amplifying their charm.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
