Rising Stars: Meet Kay Blair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Blair.

Hi Kay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m the owner of 2 podcast shows ‘DWNTWNWRLD’, ‘Eat Fruit Pod’, and the blog DWNTWNWRLD.com.

I have always had a passion for the music industry. With over 12 years of experience working in the entertainment industry all starting from ‘Koch Entertainment’ now owned by ‘Entertainment One’. I’m well-versed in digital marketing, content creation, and engaging storytelling.

I’ve had over 200 conversations and numerous viral hits with millions of views, which has helped increased exposure for artists & brands with features in some of the world’s most popular publications (i.e., Harper’s Bazaar, TMZ, SOHH, TV One, and more).

I’m most passionate about helping women in the entertainment industry, especially those of colour.

Currently residing in Toronto, ON.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been far from easy. You’re continuously having to prove yourself no matter how much you remind yourself it’s not necessary. Blocking out naysayers is a learned skill, I’ve learned quickly and always reminded that not everyone can see your vision until you meet with the right individuals to help bring it to fruition. A thick skin is must and don’t be afraid of the word ‘No’.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As mentioned earlier I’m a blogger and podcaster. I’ve had hundreds of conversations with people in the entertainment industry, big and small. Some of the most popular conversations include R&B Singer Vedo, R&B Duo Ruff Endz, The Breakfast Club Host Charlamagne Tha God, and Dancehall Artist I-Octane.

I’m most proud about the women in the entertainment industry, especially those of colour that I’ve been able to mention their names in rooms they may not of been exposed to or offer help in some other way. Because those are the very moments that have also helped me get to where I am today.

My interviews are very raw and real, I even hate calling them interviews, I view them as conversations. I feel privileged that individuals choose to be vulnerable with me and share their stories.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
The Toronto music scene has evolved tremendously over the years and has Influenced a lot of the sounds we know and love today. It’s part of my mission to help listeners and readers know internationally how vast and important the Toronto music scene is.
Drake is the greatest artist alive, it’s a fact that I’m still surprised people argue, because of strides that he has made have opened a lot of doors for people in the city.
