Life & Work with Rachel Hale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Hale.

Hi Rachel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am originally from a town of 3,500 people called Prescott, Arkansas. When I was ten years old, I felt God called me to sing for Him. As I grew up, that was the dream I continued to work towards. In 2013, I was a top 20 female finalist on American Idol Season 12, and American Idol really helped launch my career. Billboard ranked my performance of Grace Potter’s “Nothing But Water” as one of the top moments of the season, and that ranking opened many doors for me. In 2013, I also graduated from Belmont University with a degree in songwriting.

Since Idol, I have had many career highlights. One of my personal favorite moments was co-writing a song called “Firm Foundation.” “Firm Foundation” became the title track for the album recorded by gospel trio Selah that went on to win Inspirational Album Of The Year at the 51st Dove Awards.

Most recently, I have been a guest on Daystar Television’s Ministry Now, Joni Table Talk, and The Green Room. The music videos for my singles “Promised Land” and “Rainbow.” are currently being streamed on GOD TV, reaching 262 million homes worldwide.

My newest single is “A Man.” “A Man” is a tongue-in-cheek prayer begging mankind to get it together. I co-wrote “A Man” with songwriters CJ Solar and Andrew Scott Wills. The track was produced by Grammy-nominated Sal Oliveri and mixed by Grammy winner Andrew Ramsey.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! However, I have this saying that gets me through the struggles: “Poop is fertilizer!” In other words, I believe the bad things that happen in life are the very things that will help you grow. I have seen beautiful things grow from my lowest points.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was casted for a TV show, and I felt the opportunity would be a breakthrough in my career. The week before I began working, my part was cut from the show, my catalytic converter was stolen from my car, and the governor of California issued a stay-at-home order for the state of California. All of this happened within a span of three days.

I remember feeling distraught, and I cried out to God. I remember the Lord told me to give thanks for what I had. As I did, I had an idea come to me- I would start a cooking series from home called “Hale’s Kitchen.” That cooking series has taken off, and I have been able to travel across the country because of it.

“Hale’s Kitchen” is a spin on Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen and a pun on my last name. In the series, I team up with paleo companies to make fun recipes for my followers to enjoy. I sometimes invite celebrity guests to join me as well. I even made an appearance at The World Food Championships in Dallas, Texas! It has been a BLAST!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I read the Bible every single day. I cannot go through life without it.

Right now, I am listening to a lot of Dr. Daniel Amen. He teaches about mental health and foods that benefit the brain.

One of my favorite books is “Love Does” by Bob Goff. I love reading “Love Does” because I always laugh uncontrollably while simultaneously being inspired.

There is a workshop that helped me tremendously. It is the Creativity Unlocked Workshop hosted by a company called OneStep Guides.
