Hidden Gems: Meet Ifakemi Comeaux of Ayi Lo Da Garden Botanica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ifakemi Comeaux.

Hi Ifakemi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My spiritual journey started deeply in 2019. It started because I was going through a really challenging time in my life. But I was not going to let that challenging time deter me on the wrong path. I was determined to not let that challenging time or any other challenging time stop me. I knew I was destined to make a change but at that time I couldn’t understand how; until I started practicing Orisha, Ifa and Ancestor Veneration. Practicing Orisha and Ifa allowed me to get closer to my ancestors and form a bond with them that has been unbreakable. Being on this journey allowed me to realize my purpose is to heal people through my words and actions. And bring to the forefront the importance or valuing and taking care of your Ori(mind).

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Of course, it hasn’t been a smooth road. No one said it would be easy to live in your purpose. It is all about your mindset and how you continue to succeed in times of struggle. I have had to start over with my business plenty of times; and each time I had to start over I learned something different that I have added to my skill belt. Struggles and obstacles are a time for growth to determine how you can continue on your journey of success. They are lessons to be learned to get to the next stage in your life. If there is no struggle, then how will I ever be able to progress? Struggle does not equal stop. Struggle means there is a space for progress. I’ve I would’ve stopped at every obstacle that presented itself to me then I wouldn’t be here talking to you today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Ayi Lo Da Garden Botanica is a business curated and inspired by my Orishas and my ancestors to help people of color whether it is through education, guidance on their spiritual journey, honoring your health or even feeling confident in your own skin. I am a Reiki Practitioner, a Herbalist, a Healer, and an Astrologist. I specialize in Obi Divinations, herbal blends and my famous She’s Got that Smoothea. I am known for healing the darkness in people that they do not acknowledge. What sets me apart from others is my Asè and the mission my spirits sent me here to accomplish. I have my own gifts and abilities to share with the world that may not align with others and that’s what makes my business different from others. I am most proud of my brand period because my brand is a brand of transformation and healing the roots. I want the readers to know; if you want to change it start from your Ori, if you don’t start with your Ori you will always fail and I am here to remedy that pattern.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I started this business at home while still in college and look at where I am now because I wasn’t afraid to take the risk. I have taken major risks with starting this business and the fact that I’ve had to start over so many times shows how much time and effort I have put into my brand. Taking risks is a part of growing. Being risky can put you in uncomfortable situations and that’s where determination and growth come in. So never be afraid to take risks cause you never know where you can go. Being afraid will get you in positions you never want to be in. And you never want to regret where you could’ve been.
