Today we’d like to introduce you to Paloma Gomez.

Paloma Gomez

Hi Paloma, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, my mom was a lead singer in a merengue group in the Dominican Republic. I would always watch her, and all of the girls in the group get ready before shows and loved playing in their makeup. Even though I was not allowed to wear makeup until I had my quinces, I was passionate about it and loved watching YouTube gurus and GRWM videos. I also became a mom of two at a really young age. Around this time, I went through what I would call the most difficult time of my life. I suffered from anxiety and depression, I was in an abusive relationship, was very insecure of who I was, and and worked multiple jobs to make ends meet. But I would always love getting ready in the morning before work; it was my escape from reality, and it was the only time I felt like I had time for myself, and it gave me a little boost of confidence to take on the day. With time I became very good at it and eventually started doing some of my friends and coworkers’ makeup, who also wanted to learn! After I was able to have more stability, I decided to grow my makeup business and start doing makeup again. I’ve always known that I am meant to be in the beauty industry. I enjoy helping others by making them feel beautiful, inspired, and empowered. Makeup has the ability to change your life, and I hope to be able to show that to my clients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had a rough path to get to where I am now. Being a single mother of two and working seven days a week, I didn’t have the time to go to school or even freelance for a while. I allowed for fear to get in the way of what I really wanted to do for a long time. I didn’t have a sound support system or a plan. Once I started having more faith in my abilities and learned to not care about what anyone would think of me, I started to receive what I had been praying for.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a makeup artist in the Atlanta area, and I specialize in soft glams. I am known for my welcoming personality and professional skills. I enjoy doing soft glams the most because it allows my clients to still feel beautiful while enhancing their natural features. How I describe a soft glam look there is no harsh lines, it is nicely blended and lush! That is where I got my business name Thelushlooks. I wanted to represent my style of makeup glams; very delicate, glowing, still natural while accentuating and highlighting your best features! I am most proud of my accomplishments while pursuing my dream, I truly enjoy doing makeup and getting to meet so many new people and hear their stories while sharing mine.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
While creativity is one of the most important characteristics, my professionalism, willingness to learn, and reliability have allowed my business to grow as an artist. As a self-taught artist, you can still become successful as long as you work hard, practice your skills, and network.
